Mit Rocket: Robot on Wheels landet Sucker Punch einen echten Knaller. Die Steuerung ist sehr feinfühlig und genau, sodass ihr den kleinen Helden millimetergenau lenken könnt. Nur die Kamera hat manchmal Probleme zu folgen und den günstigsten Blickwinkel zu treffen, doch sie kann ganz einfach mit den C-Buttons nachjustiert werden. Die Grafik ist abwechslungsreich und im Comic-Stil gezeichnet. Wer jedoch eine Abneigung gegen quietschbunte Level hat, sei gewarnt, Rocket ist in intensiven Farben gehalten. Die Musik klingt leicht synthetisch und bietet zu wenig Abwechslung, dafür können die Soundeffekte voll und ganz überzeugen. Neben Donkey Kong 64 und Rayman 2 – The Great Escape ist Rocket: Robot on Wheels bereits das dritte Jump&Run-Highlight zum diesjährigen Weihnachtsgeschäft und durch sein originelles Leveldesign ein echter Geheimtip.

Rocket works so well precisely because it is so different from the typical platform game. The realism of the gameplay, set in the surreal world of a cartoony theme park, makes this a game well worth any gamer's time.

What you should know is that Rocket is easily one of Nintendo 64's most innovative, original, deep, and utterly brilliant "platformers" to date. It's a game that is clever in a way that so many games aren't. It's a game that challenges players with a seemingly never-ending variety of unique, satisfying puzzles and mini-adventures. And wow, what a physics engine! -- You've really got to see it in action to believe it.

In the end, Rocket is a good platform game that will please platform fans. Its gameplay is diverse yet solid, and it all combines to form a game that will keep you interested for quite some time.

Rocket is een leuke game maar niet voor de hardcore gamer. Kleine broertjes stuff.

As for the action, it's pretty satisfying on the whole. The control is a little hinky at times. [Editor's note: Hinky? It must be a southern word.] Somehow, I feel that I'm always holding a little something back--that I never get to put my little robot pedal to the metal--but that's the only complaint I have with this otherwise wonderfully eclectic gem.

Overall, Rocket: Robot on Wheels is a good attempt at a stale format. I cannot give it an extremely high rating, because its main concept -- searching for things -- is not new. I am comfortable labeling it as an above-average game, because there are enough hidden treasures that separate it from other titles in the genre.
