A sideshow to the virtual museum exhibition
Graveyard of the Pacific: the Shipwrecks of Vancouver Island, this game puts the player in charge of an historical nautical trade voyage north along the Strait of Georgia from Victoria up along the coast of British Columbia's Vancouver Island to Campbell River. Initially making selections of cargo, vessel and crew type, all within a limited budget, the player then steers the ship by hand (courtesy of a top-down view with simple keyboard controls) through the treacherous marine passages, aiming to counter random winds triggered from the four corners and avoid being dashed to pieces on the cruel rocky coastline. Ship speed and handling under windy conditions will differ depending on the initial selections made; subsequent voyages following a successful one grant the player an increased budget allowing them to not have to choose between superior ship and crew types.
