Zugreifen!

NBA Live 07 includes a few new modes and features that will surely satisfy fans of the franchise. The novelty of seeing NBA Live on the portable has faded, but the gameplay is still good enough to make the game worthwhile.

For on-the-go basketball, NBA Live 07 is a first-round pick. It's got both quick and deep modes, with Dynasty being a welcome addition. I can really see people getting into the PS2 connectivity, as an 82-game season is sometimes too long for playing on one console. NBA Live 07's gameplay itself is right up there with its console siblings -- and even better in some respects (one shoot button). I'm still going with the NBA 2K series on consoles, but I think I've found my new favorite portable hoops title.

With Live 07 pulling up lame on the 360, the PlayStation 2 and Xbox are your best bet if you're looking for a good game of NBA Live. The new features don't add much to the overall experience, but the game still plays well and has plenty of game modes. If you're trying to choose between the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions, the PS2's controllers are a little friendlier, but the Xbox looks much better, especially if you're playing it in high definition.

Veterans won’t be impressed by this new part in the series and newbies will have problems with the complicated controls. It’s better to get older versions of NBA Live from under the dust or to wait for a new one.

Overall, NBA Live 07 makes improvements on its awful next-generation predecessor. It's an Xbox 360 basketball game that is missing a few very important touches, like playability and streamlined animation. EA Canada has some great ideas here. They've got the ambition, they've got the ideas. They've just got to execute. Like any rookie in the NBA, you can't just have the heart, you've gotta have the game to make it big and run with the competition. In the end, you won’t be cheering for NBA Live 07. In fact, the chant will be, “DISAPPOINTMENT!”

While last year it may have been impressive seeing Live in portable form, the results this year are far less remarkable. Tossing in a few minigames is a step in the right direction, but the addition of a multiseason dynasty mode that most people will likely never play seems like a waste of resources, especially when the gameplay is so flawed. If you don't own Live 06 and you're craving a hoops game on the go, NBA Live 07 is worth a look, but if you do own last year's game, there's just not enough of an improvement to justify a purchase.

NBA Live 07 for the PSP is a great attempt to bring fans of the hardwood a deep and exclusive-rich portable game that goes beyond the console version but sadly it fails in its execution. With lengthy load times, slow framerate and the unfortunate Superstar moves just keep this game from being fun despite its decent mini-games and great multiplayer aspect. Skip this one, sports fans, and hope next year EA Sports will fix these problems.

NBA Live 07 isn't a bad game, but it is disappointing. Live 06 had many of the pieces needed to make a great basketball game, but rather than improving those specific pieces, EA added more parts and didn't make any of the old stuff much better. All the new game modes are nice, but the lack of noticeable improvement in how the game plays means you probably won't want to spend a whole lot of time with them.

Xbox 360Gamernode
In the end, NBA Live 07 falls far short of expectations. After Live 06, we all hoped that the next title would not only include the features left out of the first-generation Xbox 360 title, but also up the ante and truly compete with the 2K series. As it is, it seems EA truly didn't care to refine gameplay this time around. While the inclusion of features the PS2 and Xbox gamers have had for a year or two now are nice, it isn't nearly enough to make up for a gameplay plagued with bugs, glitches and bad programming. This year, the title of Best NBA Video Game goes to NBA 2K7, without a doubt. It will take a lot for NBA Live to right itself and be a quality title again next year. If it can't, it may be too late for the long-running series to get a foothold in the next-gen marketplace.

While the PSP version of NBA Live 07 is much better than that of the PS2 and Xbox, it's not better by too much. The game still has a lot of A.I. and gameplay flaws, and the domineering power of the Superstar control from last year really exerts its influence in this year's game. On the plus side, it's great to see Dynasty mode and the EA Media Center, which should be included in many other games. Unfortunately, dynasty mode, while nice, still won't save you from that poor gameplay experience (unless you feel like simming every single game), which is a step back from what this game could've been on the portable.

The best things you can say about NBA Live 07 are that it sounds great and that the slam-dunk contest is entertaining. There are lots of different play modes, but all of the options in the world are worthless when the gameplay has so many problems. If you simply must pick up a copy of NBA Live this year, the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions are by far your best bets--the PC version is inferior to them in every way.

The game has positives, they're just away from the 5-on-5 parquet. The franchise mode is deep and will give you plenty to do, from signing coaches to managing your team's fatigue levels. There are two new minigames that are fun distractions, particularly the 2 Ball game. But the coolest thing in the game is the EA Media center. If you have any music on your memory stick, it'll put make it available in the game, with no effort on your part. There's nothing quite like scrolling menus while tapping your toe to Linda Ronstadt's "Different Drum." Very NBA.

NBA Live 07 isn’t quite the upgrade we’d hoped for. The game is almost a carbon copy of last year’s game, albeit with more features. EA have tried to even out the game play by including a player who has the “X-Factor” but you’re more likely to just utilise your superstar players whilst you keep executing the same moves again and again. Unless you’re a die hard NBA Live fan this game is hard to recommend, the game is far too similar to it’s predecessor and as such it’s hard to see the game as anything other than a rehash.

WindowsGame Positive
The developer needs to invest time in making a finished product, instead of focusing on silly promotions. As it is, the game feels as if it just entered a closed stage of alpha testing. Although there are moments (albeit brief) of enjoyment while playing, they pale in comparison to the myriad of headache inducing problems, making this game completely unrecommendable to just about everybody.

You broke my heart, NBA Live 07, you broke my heart. The game is full of bugs and glitches that make it almost impossible to play, and the few additions with the X-Factor and "redefined" Freestyle Superstar controls don't make enough impact on the game to make it playable or enjoyable. The additions to the dynasty mode, while nice, still don't save you from that poor gameplay experience (unless you feel like simming every single game). Save yourself the frustration, and let NBA Live 07 ride on the bench for this year. Hopefully it will develop into something stronger in the offseason for next year, minus the irritating game issues.

Xbox 360The Video Game Critic
For a series that's over 12 years old, the lack the bells and whistles is hard to justify. Yes, on-line users can watch real NBA highlights, but I didn't buy this game to watch ESPN. Marv Albert and Steve Kerr offer insightful commentary, and it's especially funny when they critique your button pressing. There's some fun to be had with NBA Live 07, but most gamers will prefer NBA 2K7.

Xbox 360Digital Press - Classic Video Games
Looking back even further, the only real benefit between this and NBA Live 95 (the inaugural edition of this franchise) is that the players don't slide around the court. Now, they stop on a dime unnaturally when contested. It's a glaring comparison, one that shows how far this series has fallen from its once dominant high point. This is the worst basketball video game so far in this new millennium.
