With all this gravy, there?s still plenty of room for improvement. Maximum passing is still in its infancy for the NBA line, and hopefully we?ll see it become as indispensable as it has in the NFL 2K series. As you?ll notice in replays, animation transitions also need work in order to make things flow in a realistic fashion. It would be great get to get some sort of training camp mode and perhaps an assistant to help navigate the insane franchise mode, too.

An excellent game, one of the best basketball games I've played in a while. NBA Live 2003 sure has a tall order to fill.

Alley Oop, Jab Step, Crossover, Defensive Drei-Sekunden-Regel - alles klar?

Basketballerherz, was willst du mehr? Vielleicht, knapp bekleidete Digi-Cheerleader in den Pausen!

At the end of the day, most of NBA 2K3 is filled with ups. Despite its random flaws, the game's gorgeous graphics, solid gameplay and top-notch Franchise mode make it an easy All-Star.

WindowsActionTrip
In a nutshell, NBA Live 2003 is what you'd call a complete game. It looks good and it plays great. A few AI drawbacks aside, this is hands down the best basketball simulation on the market. I wholeheartedly recommend it to all of you who've experienced the joys and frustrations of the magical game of basketball - even if only by watching the Sunday play-off games on NBC.

NBA Live 2003 is perfect for gamers looking for a non-stop bombardment of highlight reel plays. The freestyle controls are excellent and the graphics are easily the best of any basketball game available for the GameCube.

Basketball doesn’t get any better than this and with plenty of game modes, including online play, Sega Sports NBA 2K3 is sure to be a favorite among sports gamers everywhere. Be sure to pick this one up, you won’t regret it.

With NBA Live 2003, it’s apparent that EA Sports is back on the right track with the series. The game plays well and is a blast, and the Freestyle control is the shot in the arm basketball games have needed for years. The inclusion of online play in the PS2 version also makes for some more replay value along with the solid Franchise mode. With Sega Sports breathing down their neck, it was only a matter of time before EA got their act together – and Live 2003 does just that. It’s definitely a surprise that Live is such a well-done game; so check it out.

The gameplay in NBA Live 2003 is fast-paced and fun, but it still retains enough simulation elements to prevent it from being a completely arcade-style basketball game. In addition, the online component for the PC version is excellent and lets you create clubs and track several different statistics, so it should provide ample motivation for playing the game long after you've purchased it. However, if you plan to play the game online for any amount of time, you should be aware that you'll need to subscribe to EA Sports Online, an online service that offers a free 60-day trial period but charges monthly fees thereafter. EA Sports has also done a great job of integrating the freestyle control scheme so that you really feel as though you have more control over the ball. It's true that there aren't too many other basketball games on the PC to choose from, but any fan of the sport should give NBA Live 2003 a try, keeping in mind that the game is best enjoyed with a dual analog gamepad.

NBA 2K3 is the game to get if you want as realistic an NBA experience as possible. This is by far one of the best sports simulations out there. However, if you are looking for an experience closer to old-school b-ball games like NBA Jams, then you don't want to come here. There are other solid basketball games that offer a more arcade experience. There's nothing wrong with any of those games, but none of them manage the intelligent AI, the amazingly realistic graphics, or as real a hoops experience as NBA 2K3.

PlayStation 2PSX Extreme
The Live series has finally redeemed itself and is once again a worthy competitor in the basketball genre. EA's attempts dominantly usurp anything they did last year. The game isn't for everyone, though. The end result is something to the likes of a hybrid of NBA Street and NBA 2K3, with NBA 2K3 having more of an influence. It's a fast-paced basketball game with tons of crazy dunks, equally outrageous stops on defense, and a great replay system -- a well-crafted game overall that most any sports fan will enjoy.

GameCubeGame Over Online
All in all, EA Sports has a great handle on the basketball crown with NBA Live 2003. With improved graphics, better animations, and a control system that, like their commercials say, allows players to fully express themselves anyway they want, Live 2003 is unbelievably solid. Probably the hardest decision would be which one to buy if you own all three systems. The Xbox version is graphically the most polished, while the PS2 version is the only one that has online features. Gamecube owners shouldn't be worried, as their version is one of the best basketball titles for their system. Anyone who loves the sport should run out and pick up a copy of this game.

If you're a fan of basketball, then you'll like this game. Even if you're not a fan of basketball, you'll still find something enjoyable about this game. After the problems of last year's version (problems so severe that a PC version wasn't even released), it's good to see the series is back on track and available to the PC crowd. It's even more exciting because of the wonderfully implemented Freestyle controls. It's a risk that's definitely paid off for the EA team and I'm anxious to see how it makes its way to the football franchises.

If you like realistic basketball titles with sharp graphics and a plethora of options then pick up NBA 2K3. Just don’t forget that you can turn off the commentary. This game rocks the virtual arena and no basketball fan should be without it.

GameCubeIGN
This is NBA Live's debut on GameCube, but the 2002 edition on other platforms was choppy, devoid of any basketball artificial intelligence and had too much focus on the flashy, more superficial elements of professional basketball. With Sega's popular NBA 2K series making the jump to all three next generation consoles last season, NBA Live 2003 pretty much had to do something great to keep EA in the game. This latest version of NBA Live succeeds because it allows gamers to focus on the most exciting and entertaining parts of NBA basketball but with all of the rules and realism you'd expect from an all out NBA simulation. Plus the new "freestyle control" system on the C-stick could actually be the gaming revolution that EA's marketing types have been hyping up so much.

PlayStation 2GameSpot
NBA 2K3 comes the closest of any current game to mimicking the flow of NBA basketball--you'll get a few fast breaks here and there, but most of the emphasis is placed on the half-court set and setting up plays to get an open shot. Even the game's flaws seem like shortcuts that the development team took to make sure your opponents make you pay for playing sloppy basketball. Simply put, NBA 2K3's great gameplay, in-depth franchise mode, and functional (albeit shoddy) online play make it a must-have for fans of the sport.

While it may not totally realistic, it still retains enough of simulation style elements (especially in the harder difficulty settings) to appease even the most hardcore basketball fan. Its up-tempo gameplay along with the great passing and control make NBA Live 2003 a truly enjoyable basketball game.

WindowsGameSpot (Belgium/Netherlands)

GameCubeGamePro
NBA Live 2003 gets a complete overhaul in both the graphics and gameplay department, placing a much heavier emphasis on an adrenaline-charged experience. Although the gameplay balance is off, it remains fun and easy to play.
78
GameCubeGameSpy
Because of its advanced visual presentation, NBA Live 2003 is an enticing proposition, but don't be fooled. After a few days you'll have seen all the cinemas and all you're left with is a game that plays like a flock of mosquitoes buzzing around a light bulb. It's a huge step forward for the franchise and other developers will likely copy the freestyle dribbling system for years to come, but until the defensive and offensive play is better balanced, it's hard to recommend as anything other than a rental.

WindowsGameplanet
Overall NBA Live 2003 is a well-crafted representation of basketball, and if you are a fan of the league you will not be disappointed with this latest offering in the series. It is however not for the casual gamer out for a bit of fun, with the one on one gameplay option losing it's lustre pretty quickly, and the league being designed more for the diehard fan.

WindowsArmchair Empire, The
This is basketball, pure and simple with all 29 teams available with the NBA Eastern/Western conference and the 1950's-90's All-Stars added for good measure. Play modes include Exhibition, 1 On 1, Multiplayer, Season, Franchise and Playoffs. Available in the latter three modes is a management mode which includes statistics galore and the freedom to trade/sign/release players from your roster or, interestingly enough, create and edit your own player.
