There are lots of game modes, Season, Dynasty Mode, Playoffs, and 1 on 1. This is the Slam Dunk School one of the game's tutorial modes.

Whenever the game has to do some serious work such as loading the next section, the player sees a screen like this. Progress is shown by the changing colour of the balls at the bottom of the screen
