NBA Live 97 er helt på højde med EA Sports' andre 97-simulationer og giver samtlige konkurrenter baghjul. Er man til multiplayer-sportsspil med fart på, skal man eje dette spil.

NBA Live 97 gehört zusammen mit NHL Hockey 97 zur absoluten Referenz im Bereich Sportspiele. Kann zunächst die überwältigende Grafik faszinieren, so ist es bei vorangeschrittener Spieldauer vor allem das Gameplay, das stundenlang an den Bildschirm fesselt.

This game is pure genius. I can't wait to have yet another game. Tekken2, Madden 97, and Triple Play'97 must feel jealous and neglected since the new kid on the block entered my life. I say, get this game if you like basketball, In The Zone 2 is cool but I think the overall playability and full season stat tracking dominates the appearance of ITZ2.

Det er meget svært at være utilfreds med et så helstøbt produkt som dette. Grafikken er helt i top, og endelig har menuerne fået et tiltrængt pift, så de fremstår frækkere end nogensinde. Lyden er vel nok det svageste punkt, fordi den kun er god - ja, ja top karaktererne er på vej - og gameplayet virker så solidt, at spillet har en holdbarhed langt, langt ud i fremtiden.

De vertrouwde spelkeuzes "arcade" en "simulation" zijn ook weer van de partij, waarbij in "simulation" het voortdurend onderbreken van het spel, om de vervangingen aan te kondigen, spijtig genoeg nadelig is voor het spelplezier. Een ander spelelement dat grote vooruitgang heeft geboekt, is de computer intelligentie. Deze zal steeds proberen je om de tuin te leiden met allerlei acties en truukjes. Je kan de computer dus niet, zoals bij de meeste sportspelen, steeds beetnemen met eenzelfde beweging. De systeemvereisten zijn anders ook niet de minste: om in SVGA een acceptabele snelheid te halen, heb je toch een Pentium 120 nodig. Maar heb je thuis zo'n snel systeem en ben je een sportfanaat, dan ben je wel een tijdje zoet met de 82 wedstrijden die er in "season" mode zitten.

The graphics, sound, gameplay, and numerous features are enough to satisfy hoop fans and die-hard sports gamers. Perhaps the "official" 'net association tag best sums it up: "NBA Live 97 - You'll Love This Game!"

Denn NBA Live liegt bei mir auf jeden Fall vor dem hauseigenen FIFA und dem verschlimmbesserten NHL (die "97" denken Sie sich bitte jeweils dazu). Zur Spitze der Mannschaftssportspiele verhelfen NBA 97 sein Realismus und das sehr gute Interface. Neben den knalligen Menüs gefallen mir als Strategiefan die schier unendlichen Statistiken. Auch wenn es nicht unbedingt von Bedeutung ist, ob Detlef Schrempf fünf Zentimeter größer ist als Dennis Rodman - die Daten sind alle da. Wer sich die verschiedenen Spieltaktiken zu Gemüte führt, erfährt mehr übers Basketballspiel als durch Augenringe evozierendes Dauergucken von NBA-Übertragungen.

EA has definitely poured its love of the game into this one. From shooting alley-oops to Patrick Ewing, to the commentary of announcer Ernie Johnson Jr., this game has it all. I can't wait for '98.

One significant new feature is the "manual stealing", which let's you press the A button to initiate a steal. Although it's much-needed, the execution is seriously lacking. EA should have incorporated a slider for steal frequency, because you can pretty much steal at will. Another new feature is the ability to "lock" a player so you can retain control of him for the duration of the game. NBA Live 97's graphics are noticeably more vibrant and colorful than previous editions, and I like how the score is permanently displayed in the lower corner of the screen. Informative text is sometimes displayed across the bottom like "Bulls are on a 6-0 run". But what happened to the benches on the sidelines? They're gone! Especially in sports games, details like that really do matter. NBA Live 97 is a solid entry in the Live series, but not necessarily the best.

The basic fact is that NBA Live '97 has lost it's playability. The two-player game can't even compare to In the Zone 2 and the one-player game, while deep, is just too slow. I've personally been a long-time fan of the NBA Live series, because of their commitment to being a simulation, but this game needs to get back the fun it once had.

The animation is far from fluid, as the ball jumps around and magically appears in a player's hands. It's actually hard to tell what's going on! The sound is minimal, with a steady water-faucet crowd and brief comments provided by the announcer after each basket. Even the control is horrendous. Players move much too fast and don't stop when you want them to. Are they playing on ice or something? To round things out, the computer AI is weak, the dunks are unspectacular, and the loading times are painfully long. You'll be reaching for your old Genesis after playing this garbage.
