Could Brown win the BCS this year? Naah.

The first Nintendo GameCube version of SEGA Sports' popular collegiate football sim boasts brand-new player models, redesigned stadiums and all 25 official Bowl Championship Series (BCS) bowls.

    School's In Session

While the basic game engine is based on SEGA Sports NFL 2K3 game, SEGA Sports NCAA College Football 2K3 does far more than just paste on college uniforms. NCAA 2K3 uses different character models than NFL 2K3, giving the athletes the slightly slimmer look of college-age players.

Playbooks are also designed to take full advantage of your quarterback's rifle arm or your halfback's shake-and-bake moves. You can call reverse plays, the quarterback option and lots of long passes to rack up the lopsided scores that are often characteristic of college ball.

SEGA Sports NCAA 2K3 includes all 117 Division 1A schools, and while it does not contain real player names (the ever-watchful NCAA won't allow its student-athletes to be exploited, y'know), it does allow you to edit names, which will then appear on jerseys. Rosters and ratings are based on 2002 squads.

    Build a Legacy

The Legacy Mode gives you the ultimate way to show your school spirit and manage your favorite school from the ground up. During the preseason, you can recruit hot prospects from around the country and compete in the Spring Practice session.

You can play the entire 2002 schedule for all Division I teams. During the season, the game will calculate your team's ranking to determine if and where it ranks in the weekly top 25 including both the Writers Poll and the Coaches Poll.

Manage to put together a quality season and you can land an invitation to any of the prestigious BCS Bowls. Natch the Orange, Rose, Fiesta and Sugar bowls are all here. You can also field selected Division 1-AA teams as well as hidden teams, including the last 10 national champs.

You can continue your Legacy, season after season, and eventually even win the National Championship. Star athletes can nab the Heisman Trophy and other prestigious awards. As players graduate, you can transfer them to SEGA Sports NFL 2K3. Your Heisman winner might even be able become Super Bowl MVP.

    Graphics

The presentation in SEGA Sports NCAA 2K3 looks remarkably like a regular season broadcast on ESPN. Everything from that famous intro music to the way scores are displayed during the game will make you think you are watching a real game. While the snappy presentation adds a lot to the game's showbiz authenticity, if you watch much ESPN you may already be tired of the theme music.

SEGA Sports delivers the gridiron goods with authentic stadiums, cheerleaders and mascots. Go Stanford Tree! Nice animations show players dive, spin and butt heads on the turf, and weather effects like snow and rain not only look good but also affect your team's performance. The action is fast and the animation is generally as smooth and quick as a fleet-footed tailback on an open-field run. For a sharper and clearer image, select the Progressive Scan option when playing on a TV set that supports that feature.

SEGA Sports NCAA 2K3 is a good choice for college football fans. The Legacy Mode gives you lots of options to toy with, and SEGA Sports fans will dig the graphics and game play. With multiplayer support and a complete list of Division I teams, you will be playing hard all season.

In stores now, SEGA Sports NCAA 2K3 is rated "E" (Everyone) by the independent Entertainment Software Rating Board. Progress is saved to a Memory Card (not included).
