Athletic World is a spectacular title. If you're looking for one to round out your NES collection for Power Pad titles or if you're curious what that old thing could do, then this is the game to check out. I haven't tried the other ones out yet, but thus far I have to say I'm happy with what this game, and the peripheral it was built around has to offer. This is one to come back to from time to time.

Despite the lack of depth and – depending on one’s athletic prowess – quick completability of Athletic World, I still enjoyed my time with the game. Had it a few more events, perhaps something other than mostly jumping and running, it would be looked upon more favorably today. If nothing else, the game serves as a welcome introduction to the Power Pad, a peripheral that paved the way for the Dance Dance Revolution series and the Wii Balance Board, among others. Long live superfluous peripherals!

ASM braucht einige Tage Erholungs-Urlaub.

A couple of challenges try and change it up a bit by adding vertical movement and squatting, but it does little to alter the fact that the title is little more than a tech demo, and one without even a multiplayer capability.
