Captain Skyhawk

Captain Skyhawk is one of the smoothest and fastest blasting games I've seen on the Nintendo and I love it! The up-the-screen sections are very challenging, with hazards whizzing by beneath you and things to blast on the ground. At top speed you really have to rely on your reflexes to guide you around the hills and through the rather thin valleys without crashing! The other sections add plenty of variety to the action, and the end result is a brilliant-looking, reaction-testing blaster with loads of high-speed action.

The end result is a game that fans of odd little retro shooters will likely find terrific. Then, after an hour or so of enjoyment, they’ll almost certainly forget it even exists until they re-discover it years later and fall in love all over again. If you haven’t already, give it a shot today. Adrenaline rushes like this one don’t come often enough by half.

The diverse mission objectives include rescuing a scientist, dropping off supplies, and destroying strategic enemy bases. In addition to the planetary missions, there are also some air-combat and space station docking stages. The air-combat stages play like Afterburner, with enemy aircraft that zoom in and scale nicely over the horizon. Unfortunately, these air stages are lengthy and and tend to wear out their welcome. The docking stages are short but require precision and timing. Once docked, you can load up with several secondary weapons, including lock-on missiles. The game provides several continues. Be sure to check out the title screen music which is exceptionally good. Captain Skyhawk is an ambitious shooter that delivers with quality visuals and surprising depth.

Captain Skyhawk isn't a bad game as such, in fact I quite enjoyed playing it for a time until I realised how ordinary it is. Rare, so famous for quality cartridge software, are doing themselves no favours with their latest release.

Planet jag kör är en upphottad F-14. Som de flesta vet, avskyr jag allt vad flygsimulatorer heter. Troligtvis för att jag aldrig kan undvika mark och annan terräng, typ berg. Men tro det eller ej, jag har hittat ett spel som jag faktiskt gillar. Visst, jag kolliderar fortfarande med bergen, men ibland får man köra i rymden, och där kan man inte smasha in i något annat än fienden. Grafiken är precis som vanligt, lite kantig och så, men vem bryr sig när man ska mejja ner tanks och fiendebaser? Till och med ljudslingan är diskret, så man slipper träningsvärk i öronen, vid mycket långa spelpass... Köp detta spel till det gamla hederliga Nintendot och sommaren är räddad (det som möjligtvis är kvar av den när tidningen ges ut).

Overall, Captain Skyhawk is a pretty addictive game, and you will keep coming back to it to try to achieve a high score, even if the high score table gets wiped out whenever you reset your NES (last time I completed the game, I got 316,900). If you find this game anywhere, I highly recommend it; fans of shooting and flight simulators will like it, and you can have fun crushing my score and sticking it in my face.
