But what sets Rescue Rangers apart from other NES platformers is the speed of gameplay and the level of challenge. The game is really fast-paced with Chip and Dale zipping around the screen at a great rate of knots. It's also one of the most difficult Nintendo platform games to date; the action never lets up and keeps you constantly on your toes. Chip and Dale is a recommended purchase, providing you're not yet tired of platform games.

While Chip & Dale wasn’t the most ground breaking title to come out for the NES, it didn’t disappoint in any area. It’s still a ton of nice clean fun to pick this classic up and make a quick run through it with a friend.

Finding a used game isn’t difficult, they go for about $10 on online auctions and at used game stores. It’s much easier to find than its sequel, and I would bet kids would still like playing this one even if they aren’t 100% sure who Chip N’ Dale Rescue Rangers are anymore. It’s a must-have title for co-op enthusiasts on the NES, but it holds up just fine as a solo experience. Plus, if you’re a Disney fan and collect old school video games, you pretty much are required to love all the Capcom Disney titles on the NES.

So to recap, we’ve got a game that features two chipmunks, a rat and a bee. Oh, and another mouse I forgot to mention, and an obese cat who commands some rampaging robots. We also have some neat environments to race through, boss encounters and even bonus rounds (the fact that I’m mentioning them just now in summary tells you something; they suck). But most importantly, Chip ‘N Dale: Rescue Rangers also features the kind of multi-player mode that can end friendships forever. It’s games like this that make the world a better place. Play it today and forever think of chipmunks first when someone says ‘chippendale.’

Rescue Rangers is another successful merger between Capcom and Disney. The game really provides us with a whole new technique to master, within the framework of a standard action/adventure game. You get dual scrolling, large Bosses and super 2-player interaction!

There's no denying that with good presentation, a tested formula works. Unfortunately, that's where this offering falls down. Bad collision detection make what should of been a visual feast a bit of an eyesore.

In Rescue Rangers, two players cooperatively control Chip and Dale, the two chipmunks of Disney fame. You begin in a back yard, hopping on fences and avoiding dogs while collecting bonuses and power-ups. Boxes can be thrown or used as hiding places. You'd think that being able to play alongside a friend would be a treat, but the two-player mode is annoying and frustrating. You're constantly hitting your partner accidentally, and trying to keep both characters on the screen is a major challenge, especially when jumping between ledges. The one player mode is more playable, but unremarkable as far as these types of games go. Younger gamers might derive some enjoyment from this, but I certainly didn't.
