Déjà Vu is one of the best RPG style games on the NES. It is similar to Shadowgate and The Uninvited but since it is rooted in the real world it is a lot easier to solve. If you like humor, violence and RPGs then you need to go out and pick this game up immediately.

Fans of Shadowgate will catch on quickly to the step by step action, but the challenge is to piece together a puzzle, not battle monsters. You're racing against time, the cops, and hidden dangers.

Shadowgate... Déjà-Vu... Shadowgate... Déjà-Vu...

Another PC adventure port from your friends at ICOM, the same group behind Uninvited, Deja Vu casts you as - ready for this? - an enigmatic hero who has lost his memory! What originality! I say it in jest though, because the game actually isn't half bad. I intentionally won't give away much of anything about the plot in this review, as the entire point of the game is to piece it together yourself, bit by bit. Just know that you can expect a treacherous romp through Chicago, with danger, double-crosses, murder, blackmail, hookers and the long arm of the Law around every corner. Not too bad for the same "family" console where a pudgy plumber whacks mushrooms with his ass.

Since Nintendo games are so cheap these days, I'd say to pick up Deja Vu, even if it'll only occupy a few days before you put it back on your shelf. It involves you unlike many other adventure games, and you'll have one fun time solving the mystery presented.

Déjà vu is not the best detective RPG I’ve ever played (that honor goes to Access’ Mean Streets), and will no doubt completely turn off and bore many gamers well before they get a chance to experience all it has to offer. If you can pick it up for a bargain, I’d recommend doing so. That is, of course, if you don’t mind a slow-paced thinker’s contest.

In conclusion, Déjà Vu is a creative game with a quite decent story, ambitious functions, and limitless potential. It is a very great shame that it was illustrated, composed, and presented so very, very poorly. For the most part, the game is slow, redundant, and extremely boring. Who could expect any less from a no-name company? A no-name company...and...a terrible game? Déjà vu...
