Player One (Nov, 1990)

Obviously, you’ll want to rock this game with another person. One player is still enjoyable, but lacking. Still, this is the best basketball game I’ve played on the NES so far – that I can remember anyway. It’s been awhile! Long live Konami and long live DA-BU DARIBERU!

NES Times (Apr 14, 2006)
So how does Double Dribble measure up to the later b-ball titles on the NES? While it can't compare with more advanced titles like Tecmo NBA Basketball that have more modes and options, Double Dribble does succeed where it counts, with fun, fast-paced gameplay that has stood the test of time. The 1P mode may not offer much lasting value, and the CPU teams may have an unfair advantage, but you'll still have a fun time. More importantly this game is great for quick two-player jam sessions. Overall, Double Dribble is another excellent Konami title, and still one of the best b-ball titles on the NES. If you want a simple yet fun hoops title that two players can enjoy, slam this cart into your system.

Double Dribble is a good way to acquaint yourself with one of America's biggest and best sports. Graphically the game is a little disappointing; the sprites are colourful, but they lack detail. Though sound is a mixture of jingles and spot effects, they blend together nicely to create the right atmosphere. Recommended to fans of the sport.
NES Archives (Feb 12, 2008)
The second best game on the NES is really the most impressive since it was the first good basketball game released on any home system. Pick it up to see what early basketball gaming was all about. You've gotta love those slam dunk cut scenes!
Both offensive and Defensive plays have an authentic feel. Double Dribble makes for an exciting end to end challenge with lots of baskets. A quality sports simulation.
Retro Game Reviews (Jul 27, 2015)
Double Dribble has fantastic presentation and some great gameplay but unfortunately it's extremely light on features. The solo mode is a lot of fun though and the multiplayer really shines while making for some tense, competitive matches.
1UP! (Jul 31, 2009)
The Video Game Critic (Aug 02, 2005)
As you might expect from Konami, there's a terrific halftime show complete with cheerleaders and mascots. Although somewhat uneven, Double Dribble still provides for a very fun and easy-to-play game of hoops.
Power Play (Apr, 1990)
Two-player action is pretty good, and the sound effects and music compliment the game well. However, this single game experience offers nothing more than a quick basketball jaunt. It’s definitely not sophisticated, but it’s not without its charm and is buoyed a bit by some nice sound effects and music.
