Dragon Warrior » Is the PC-98 version really an official release?

Looks a bit hackish, but that alone wouldn't justify my suspicion. It's rather the lack of hard proof I couldn't locate. Anyone know something, is there a packshot somewhere for example?
User AvatarConsensus online seems to be that it's a fan-made conversion created sometime in the mid-'90s. Certainly not an official Enix release, by any means.

Trivia, then?

Right on cue - what about unlicensed ports in general? I suppose if only one game using the official name exists, it would would be sufficent (haven't verified it yet, but the Centipede port for the BBC Micro might qualify), but there are a lot of games called "Frogger" on various systems for example, which are all based more or less on the arcade game.
User AvatarGenerally speaking unlicensed same-name conversions get their own entries and membership in a game group of "Frogger clones"
User AvatarThey do? I haven't seen that before. I have, however, seen stuff like this before.

I personally feel it's worth documenting, attached to the main entry, so long as it's made absolutely clear that it's not an official conversion. What would be the purpose in having a separate entry for an unofficial conversion when, in all other ways, it's the same game?

Ports like this are allowed if they're for computers.

For consoles? They're usually not allowed, since they fall under piracy. It depends, as usual. :p

They are? I'm not sure there was a consensus that this for example should be listed.
User AvatarNot at all, that needs to be split.
User AvatarFunny thing about that one, is that the PC version was actually added before the NES version.

I wonder if the NES platform was even available at the time it was submitted to the site? Maybe that can account for the NES version not being entered first.
User AvatarYes, that's right. It's from 2001.
