All Game Guide
Not only does Rolling Thunder have terrific game play, it looks good as well. Drawn with clean lines, the levels are are clear and sharp, and the characters move realistically. In the audio department, the sound effects are good because they are varied when they don't necessarily have to be. For example: Each type of door has a different sound when it opens. This attention to detail is very impressive for an 8-bit game. Rolling Thunder should please most NES owners. If you find a copy at a reasonable price, go for it.

Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM)
Very addicting side-scrolling shoot-em-up that is also a very difficult game. normally, difficult game mean frustration, but Rolling Thunder doesn't give that impression. A limited number of continues requires a lot of patience, but a passcode feature helps. Limited graphics and good gameplay.

Defunct Games
All in all, Rolling Thunder is a solid port of a great arcade game. While Tengen does manage to get the feel of the original game right, I can't help but notice all of the corners that were cut in the making of this 8-bit home game. Some of the cheap deaths and archaic design decisions ultimately bring the score down, but not enough to keep me from having a relatively good time playing through Rolling Thunder.
