NHL 2001

NHL 2001 is the best hockey game on any platform ever, and may possibly be the best sports game ever for the PC. This title should not be missed, and, for once, I don't feel dirty enjoying an EA game.

Gwoli podsumowania chciałbym wyraźnie zaznaczyć, że według mnie panowie z EA SPORTS stworzyli dzieło niemal idealne i zapewniające potencjalnemu nabywcy maksymalną satysfakcję. Miejmy nadzieję, że za rok ponownie uda im się dokonać podobnego wyczynu w przypadku NHL 2002. Do tego czasu jednak wśród wirtualnych symulacji hokeja na lodzie niepodzielnie rządzić będzie edycja oznaczona liczbą 2001.

Overall, while there a couple of warts, NHL 2001 is, in this reviewer’s opinion, the best NHL game to come out of EA Sports, ever. The series has taken a much-needed step forward with this iteration, and I highly suggest going out and picking it up if you like hockey, or sports games in general. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go put a whuppin’ on the Avs.

Profis freuen sich über die deutlich härter zu knackenden Computergegner. Besonders im Körperangriff sind sie nun einsame Klasse; das Krachen eines gegen die Bande gecheckten Akteurs wird fast zum Dauerton. Mir persönlich ist das beinahe schon zu viel. Macht aber nichts, denn bei NHL 2001 lässt sich fast alles den eigenen Vorstellungen anpassen. Wirklich gestört haben mich neben lahmen Intro und schlaffer Musik nur die Menüs. EA Sports hat es tatsächlich geschafft, sie gleichzeitig unattraktiv und unübersichtlich zu machen. Das kann mich aber in Sachen Begeisterung nicht bremsen; letztendlich ist es die fantastische Atmosphäre, die das Dabeisein zum Genuss macht.

Ohne Frage ist das aktuelle NHL 2001 das beste Eishockeyspiel -wenn nicht sogar das beste Sportspiel- überhaupt. Der einzige Kritikpunkt: NHL 2000, NHL 99, NHL 98,... waren auch schon hervorragend, so dass Steigerungen eben nur minimal ausfallen können. Echte Fans der Serie, Teilnehmer von Online-Ligen, oder solche die es werden wollen, werden das neue NHL 2001 sowieso ungesehen kaufen. Gelegenheits-Sportspieler, die bereits einen der Vorgänger besitzen, haben keinen echten zwingenden Grund die ca. 90,- DM locker zu machen. Neueinsteiger müssen sich überlegen, wie viel ihnen die Aktualität Wert ist. Bei Erscheinen der neusten Version kann man die Vorgänger noch in vielen Geschäften zum Schnäppchenpreis bekommen.

I would recommend this game to both the hockey lover and to anyone else who's looking for a great new sports title. "NHL 2001" will without a doubt provide you with hours of entertaining game play (as all NHL releases have in the past).

Spielspaß enorm, Atmosphäre grandios, Tester glücklich. Mir ist es ja fast schon peinlich, NHL alle Jahre wieder mehr oder weniger über den grünen Klee zu loben. Aber diese Eishockey-Serie ist nun mal das Beste, was Ihnen auf dem PC in sportlicher Hinsicht passieren kann. Die 2001er-Version inspiriert nicht nur zu neuen "Oh, wie ist das schön"-Gesängen, sondern hat auch erfreulich viel unter der Haube. In den Submenüs stecken nützliche Einstellregler, mit denen Sie den Ablauf nach Belieben abmischen, Partien gegen den Computergegner sind auf dem mittleren Schwierigkeitsgrad stets spannend und torreich. Da kann ich auch damit leben, dass dem Burschen öfter mal billige Weitschuss-Tore gelingen.

It's hard to say anything even slightly negative about this game. NHL 2001 is a brushed up version of NHL 2K, which is a brushed up version of NHL 99... There are no revolutionary improvements - just enough to make this sequel the best hockey sim on the market.

Maneuvering your athletes is pretty much a piece of cake. The game makes good use of the left analog stick and I prefer using that rather than digital because it provides better feel for the game. Dual Shock is what I love, it's extremely powerful and you can feel every hit delivered to your body through the Dual Shock, that's a big plus in the controls, great job EA! The controls have remained the same, just tightened up for better performance and I've got nothing to complain about, that's that. If you've been behind the NHL series then you've got nothing to worry about, you'll be welcomed home gently. As the last NHL game to be released on the Playstation, NHL 2001 is without a doubt the best NHL game on the Playstation.

Hockey fans are sure to enjoy NHL 2001. It offers impressive (albeit repetitive) audio, superb graphics and animation to go along with exciting gameplay and fans of both arcade and simulation-style sports games should be able to find some aspect to enjoy. Online play, customizable rosters that are available for download from the Internet and multiple season modes make this a game that should occupy the hard drive for a long time, at least until the next version is released.

Sticking to the principles, EA has kept the familiar NHL gameplay mostly intact. On the graphical side, a big change was needed, and EA didn’t hold back in delivering the goods. As you’d expect from the new frontier of gaming, the character models are remarkable renders with authentic movements and wild facial expressions. The TV-style presentation also received heavy detailing. I just love it when the players talk trash, scream at the officials, and get chewed out by the coach. Tie the eye candy together with the gameplay you crave year in and year out, and you really couldn’t ask for much more from a first-gen release. I don’t know what The Game Professor is smokin’, but he just doesn’t see the big picture here. The picture being that this game is freakin’ awesome!

Neben einer kräftigen Frischzellenkur für die Grafik sind es etliche Einstellmöglichkeiten, die NHL 2001 flexibler gestalten als früher. Außerdem spendierte EA Sports einen Trikot- und Logo-Editor - offensichtlich war man sich in Vancouver bewusst geworden, dass NHL-Fans schon seit geraumer Zeit selbst Hand an das Hemden-Design der Spieler legen.

This is definitely the best offering of NHL gaming to date. It is hard to compare Gordie Howe to Wayne Gretzky and it is hard to compare NHL 2001 to NHL '93 but if you want the most enjoyable game of computer hockey in years, pick up EA's NHL 2001. It is challenging, flexible for all gamers, as beautiful as an Arizona sunset and is damn fun to play. A big hockey style slap on the ass to EA Sports for listening to the newsgroups and message boards on the Internet. EA gave us what we wanted… NHL 2001.

Despite its short-comings, this is still the hockey game to get this year especially since the new version of the Dreamcast's NHL2k has decided to sit on the bench for a year.

While it's not the most beautiful hockey video game, NHL 2001 comes through where it counts - the gameplay. The amount of control you have over your players, coupled with the game's tight execution, guarantees that this is one game you can pull out of closet years from now and still enjoy playing. NHL 2001 makes all the right compromises on its way to becoming the PlayStation's best hockey game.

After playing NHL on PS2, it’s really hard to look at this game and think it’s cool. The return of the multiplayer season is welcome, but the NHL Challenge isn’t too exciting. Overall, it’s not a whole lot different.

NHL 2001 hat ein sehr flüssiges Gameplay und protzt mit einer beeindruckenden Präsentation. Zwar ruckelt es manchmal, aber das stört nicht wirklich. Durch die sehenswerte Grafik, können Sie sogar die Stimmung, der mit Mühe detaillierten Spieler, im Gesicht ablesen. Sogar nach einer Prügeleinlage kann man leicht entstellte Visagen erkennen.

The gameplay gripes I have with this title are fairly minor, but do detract slightly from the playability of this game. Another area of concern I have is the options and extra modes – one of NHL's strengths in the past. It does have a superb system for editing lines during the season, and the computer will even adjust the lines for you if that’s not your bag. What I really would liked to have seen is the franchise and user records. NHL 2001 is spectacular to look at and an entertaining multiplayer game, but it lacks the polish that might have made it exceptional.

You really can't go wrong with EA this year. The odd-year jinx has been broken and they have done a fine job with every effort on every console. With a few fixes (such as the jumpy framerate), next year could be the best year for EA Sports ever.

Förmodligen är NHL 2001 det sista PlayStation-spelet i serien. Och om NHL '97 var en lite halvdan inledning måste man säga tt NHL 2001 är en värdig avslutning på PlayStation-eran. Fast har man NHL '99 eller NHL 2000 och inte tycker att hundraprocentigt korrekta laguppställningar är det viktigaste som finns är det ingen vidare ekonomisk investering. Ungefär som vanligt med andra ord.

Un très bon jeu de Hockey qui ravira tous les fans du genre, même si ses graphismes restent perfectibles et si le côté arcade du jeu risque de ne pas convenir aux puristes.

Un titre qui réussi son entrée sur PS2 en restant fidèle au Hockey et en bénéficiant d'une bonne réalisation. On aurait accueilli volontiers quelques possibilités supplémentaires, mais juste histoire de jouer les difficiles.

Overall this is the best hockey game out right now, and with alittle tweaking this game could’ve been even greater. A must buy for hockey fans!

Amateurs de sensations fortes : à vos patins car avec un tel degré de réalisme NHL 2001 promet de grands frissons, et pas à cause de la température.

NHL 2001 is definitely an excellent hockey game for the PlayStation, but in the long run unless you really desire to have the updated teams and rosters, there may not be any point purchasing this title if you already own one of the previous games. NHL 2001 may also end up being overlooked with the release of the PlayStation 2 imminent in a month's time. Great title, bad timing.

It's obvious that EA's intent was to stun players with NHL 2001's graphics, and it has succeeded. There are so many shining moments during each game that the proverbial jaw drop is impossible to avoid. It will be interesting to see if EA can continue to up the ante in the graphics department in the coming years without sacrificing playability or frame rates. NHL 2001 is, without a doubt, the most visually stunning hockey game ever created.

While not too flashy, EA’s last hurrah on PlayStation ice is a solid venture that offers fluid gameplay and an abundance of simulation options. All the more intelligent with each passing year, the goalies are brick walls and the defensive is savvy in the ways of protecting the crease and stalling when they have the lead. Taking a break last year, the color commentary is online with the hilarious performance from NHL 99, and the new Create-A-Player Challenges keep you on your toes. It’s better than last year, but not too terribly different.

NHL 2001 is lachen met z'n vieren tegelijk maar zelfs dan zul je na een paar dagen schijtziek worden van de oppervlakkigheid. Huurstuff dus.

Premier jeu de Hockey sur glace à faire son apparition sur Playstation 2, NHL 2001 fait mieux que de préparer la glace pour ses successeurs en plaçant le niveau assez haut, notamment en matière de performances graphiques. La jouabilité est également à la hauteur et bénéficie pleinement de l'expérience acquise au fil des volets antérieurs, sur les supports précédents. On note simplement une légère lenteur générale et un manque de réelles nouveautés qui auraient permis à ce titre de s'imposer comme une véritable référence. Mais que les amateurs se rassurent, les gladiateurs modernes sont prêts à en découdre et semblent bien déterminés à ne pas laisser fondre la glace.

I can't rag on the game too much, and even with the short droppages in frame rate and uneven AI this is still an excellent game overall. Electronic Arts have left themselves plenty of room for improvement, but if this is the platform to build upon then we are surely going to be treated to some great ice hockey titles in the near future. Easy to play, lovely to look at, and with excellent sound effects and a realistic atmosphere, NHL 2001 is a great title to have in a growing PlayStation 2 library.

With all the hype surrounding Madden 2001, NHL 2001 gets lost in the shuffle, but it's certainly of the same calibur. If you thought the graphics in Madden were impressive, you'll freak when you see these hockey players. Their faces are better animated than the Madden players, and these guys actually talk to each other and chew gum. The shiny helmets and photo-realistic uniforms make you feel like you're watching the real thing.

Even with all these problems, a hockey newbie will probably enjoy this game. Its simple controls and impressive visuals are just enough to make this game satisfactory. But for veterans of the series and die-hard hockey nuts, this game turns out to be a disappointing dish that reeks of cold leftovers out on center ice.
