Excelling in every category, NHL Hockey '95 is better than EA's three previous hockey games combined. With a cart this complete, who cares if the NHL players go on strike!

GenesisGameFan Magazine
NHL '95 is a masterpiece, a tour de force, a showcase of all that has been done right in a video game. We continue to be amazed at the work that is accomplished by EA year after year with the NHL series (look for the evolution of NHL Hockey in the next GF Sports). I thought that '94 was as good as it gets, but a year later, I find myself playing a game that is faster, more controllable, crisper - graphically and more intense than I thought possible.

But all in all, NHL '95 has finally come through with the goods. And although the control and new player art may not be what people are used to from the NHL series, once you pick up on the subtle differences you're gonna enjoy the increased depth this game has to offer compared to it's predecessors. So slap on the gloves, lace up the skates and let's hit the ice.

Professional presentation and great game play. There's not much other than improved game presentation and stats to separate this from the original NHL Hockey. If you don't own the original, this is as good as it gets. If you do, try before you buy.

If you're a SNES owner anxious to get your hands on a great hockey game, then the seasonal play and trading options make NHL '95 the best yet. But, on the other hand, if you're planning on buying based on what you've seen the Genesis version do, then you might be a bit disappointed.

Overall, I didn't think the quality of the game's art lived up to the other games in the series, though there is a new face-off window that puts you much closer to the action.

SNESElectronic Gaming Monthly (EGM)
The game kicks ICE. The larger player animations and the advanced AI of the gaming computer make the defense tougher and it's harder to score. Cheap dekes won't fool the goalie this year. The new Trading Option and souped-up processing speed make this game rock on the Super NES. The animations are excellent. The game is fun from start to finish.

Anledningen till att jag inte ger NHL Hockey toppbetyg är att det inte utnyttjar CD-formatet.

Improved graphics and sound are present. Players get more detailed every year and so does the music. NHL 95 is another great hockey game by Electronic Arts. Season mode sets this one apart from all of their previous versions.

SNESVideo Games & Computer Entertainment
This SNES version includes all the new upgrades found in the Genesis cart, including season play, player creation, trades and fake shots. On the surface the SNES cart looks better, with larger players than the '94 version and a lot more color than in this year's Genesis game, but the scoreboard and menus are harder to read. The sound is a huge disappointment with muffled effects and synthesized music. Like the Genesis cart, the game plays much faster than before and the control is tight and precise.

SNESAll Game Guide
NHL 95 is a great hockey game for the SNES. Although it feels difficult at first, it seems really easy after about 1,000 hours of game play.

SNESGamePro
Overall, '95 looks as if it's just a slightly different version of NHL '94. Disappointing options, sound and gameplay bring this cart down from it's lofty Genesis ratings: what's "in the game" isn't in the cart.

It's not difficult to make the playoffs here, but as far as game quality goes, NHL Hockey '95 is two games behind with only three left in the season. Despite the nice looks and options, the mediocre gameplay puts this hockey sim in the penalty box with a ten-minute misconduct.

What the heck happened here? Apparently EA tried to speed up the action in their prized hockey franchise, but they managed to break a few other things in the process! For one thing, the passing is awful, and the puck never goes where you intend. That stinks, because precision passing is one of the hallmarks of the series, and without good passing, it's way too hard to execute one-timers. Yes, the gameplay is faster, but much less fun. Another problem has to do with the new digitized sound effects. The players sound like they all have laryngitis, and it's really hard on the ears. The theme music sucks royally, and the crowd noise is practically non-existent! And take a good look at the crowd - every single person looks like Thelma from Scooby Doo, and that's never a good sign.
