In the end Ninja Gaiden Black takes most of what made Ninja Gaiden great and improves it by leaps and bounds. There are more unlockables, the girls get more screen time, more enemies, harder difficulty settings, and more destructive ecstasy. Add to that the new Ninja Dog, Master Ninja, and Mission modes and you have a game that is worth much more than the $30 price tag. Just be warned – this is not for the faint of heart because it will make you cry and it will laugh at you while you are down.
Overall I recommend anyone who loved the first NG to pick this game up. For the price you simply will not find a better deal this year. Even if you beat the first game to death including both Hurricane Packs, NGB is still worth owning. For those that passed the first time around now is your chance to see what everyone is raving about. Simply put the best action title ever conceived and quite possibly one of the best games you will ever play.
If it were simply the original Ninja Gaiden with just some mission modes tacked on, it would still be worth full price. But chiming in at around $30 with new missions, new difficulty settings, new cinemas and new costumes to unlock -- on top of the already-awesome, original game -- it's practically a steal. Uncompromising and unabridged, Ninja Gaiden Black shows you how reissues could and should be done. It's worth investigation by both veterans and newcomers alike, and boasts a spit and polish rarely seen on consoles. Make no mistake, you're going to get your ass handed to you time and time again, but it looks like the game that redefined action just redefined itself.
Whether you've beaten the original version of the game on every single difficulty level or don't know your Gaiden from your garden, Ninja Gaiden: Black marks the perfect reason to once again get in touch with your inner ninja.
Ninja Gaiden Black is a love letter from Itagaki and his team to their loyal fans. It is not one of the best action games of this generation; It IS the best action game of this generation. There is no game you should be more proud to add to your library. If you had only the money for a XBox and one game… this is the one you should buy. There is no way to state that more emphatically.
Ryu's original adventure had such an effect on me that I actually tried to emulate his awesome wall-cling in real life. (Yeah, I'm a nerd.) While Ninja Gaiden Black still offers the same great battles and same great moments (humorous or dramatic), the focus is no longer on experiencing the adventure... the game's now focused on truly becoming the World's Greatest Super Ninja by perfecting the art of battle. Playing each successive difficulty and being surprised by the changes — practicing new strategies to deal with opponents that simply didn't exist before — is both intense and thrilling. This change in focus is how Team Ninja managed to not only improve on one of the best games ever made, but to give it lasting relevance.

If you’re a fan of action games, or enjoy a good challenge, and have yet to play Ninja Gaiden, do yourself a favor, and get it now. The replay value alone borders on infinite, and if you can exercise a little patience, you're in for an unforgettable time. Ninja Gaiden Black isn't just a game we play, it’s the REASON we play.
Ninja Gaiden Black was actually a surprise to me as I didn't expect Team Ninja would be able to refine the game and add some depth to it as well. For those who enjoyed Ninja Gaiden and want more Ninja action that has been improved with some new missions, then this is a great purchase for you. And for the ridiculously cheap price of $29.99, you're not going to find a better game for the money.
It's amazing that Team Ninja was actually able to take one of the best games ever to hit the Xbox (or any console) and make it better in nearly every way. In many ways, it actually feels like a brand new game thanks to the improved camera, new weapons, and the ability to make things a bit easier when the going gets too tough.
XboxChrist Centered Game Reviews
This game isn't perfect, but if you're a mature Christian who's looking for a fun, challenging action game for their Xbox. Look no further than Ninja Gaiden Black.
It’s not very often I can recommend a game with virtually no reservation, but Ninja Gaiden Black is one of those few titles that everyone with an Xbox should at least play and probably own.

Ninja Gaiden: Black is an improvement on a masterpiece. It is the defining title of this console generation and one that every gamer owes to themselves to play, even when considering the frustrating difficulty levels. Do yourself a favor and find both the skills and thirty bucks to buy this title. It will go down in gaming history as a classic that defined its generation.

I've purchased the same movie on DVD multiple times (No more versions of The Professional, please), and it looks like I'm about to do the same thing for a game. Ninja Gaiden Black is like that tasty special edition DVD you just can't resist. Even though you've already experienced its main attraction, you have to get it again for the new content. Or, if you've never played it before, now is the time.
Ninja Gaiden Black may very well be the pinnacle of video gaming this generation. At the price tag of $29.99, you are getting an award winning game filled with 20 hours of gameplay, plus another 20 hours of extra missions, not to mention extra difficulty levels that will truly test your ninja skills and two old-school gaming classics. There is no reason why you shouldn?t check this one out, especially with the next generation of gaming coming soon.
Ninja Gaiden Black joins its predecessor, along with the likes of Resident Evil 4, as one of the greatest action games in recent memory. Upon further examination, it may be one of the best of all time. It, alongside the feature-filled PlayStation 2 upgrade of RE4 and next year's Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, marks the beginning of a new trend of repackaged games, one that will hopefully continue for years to come. After all, who wants it better the first time when the second time is this good?
If you didn’t purchase Ninja Gaiden when it came out last year, then you must go out and purchase Ninja Gaiden Black as soon as you can. It is one of the best action games I have played in recent years. There is so much you can do in this game, and the unlockable content only further makes this a game that will not leave your Xbox for some time.
Ninja Gaiden is one of the most critically-acclaimed Xbox titles - just look at the average score out there. The number of high 90’s and 100’s thrown out from reputable news outlets is staggering, with only the media outlets scoring on a five scale ruining the average (a 3 out of 5 sounds good, but works out to only 60% in the grand scheme). The combination of sick graphics, excruciatingly-difficult gameplay, and, well, a bad-ass ninja player character makes Ninja Gaiden one of the best videogames in history, irregardless of the system.
Ninja Gaiden Black may not be a completely new game, but it is actually worth the only slightly lower game price. If you've never played the original, this is a whopping deal as it priced at mere $30. Whether you have played the original or not this game is worth every single penny. If you own an Xbox (and heck, if you are reading this why wouldn't you?) you are definitely missing out big if you don't pick this game up and give it a spin. Get it? Spin?
If you didn’t try out Ninja Gaiden Black last year you have no excuse not to get it at the reduced price. The game is presented well visually, is excitingly violent, and is a challenge that you will find yourself addicted to. Throw in the fact that you have all the extra content you could download from before, with new missions, and you have one hell of a package.

Even if you already have a copy of the original game in your library, Black is an absolute necessity. I’ve probably already invested more time in Mission mode than I have in the entire game, and I haven’t even touched the surface of it. On the flip side of the coin, the dented ugly side, if you couldn’t get past the second level on Normal, you may actually see the third stage.

Prepare to be challenged like you’ve never been challenged before to complete an action-adventure game. If you make it through Ninja Gaiden Black, be proud, because it definitely is one of the hardest games to complete that you’ll ever play. Fortunately, the 20-30 hours gameplay journey is worth the blood, sweat and tears you’ll shed, because Ninja Gaiden Black is truly one of the best games to ever grace the Xbox. Expect an excursion full of difficult trials and tribulations, but don’t forget to enjoy the magnificently rendered scenery (as done by the true artistic geniuses at developer Team Ninja) while you’re mastering and using the powerful ninja moves that will be the key to surviving Ninja Gaiden Black.
It’s a rare and welcome day when a re-release adds so much to the original that it can bring your excitement levels back to the first time you played the game. This is exactly what everyone should look for in an update to an older game. It’s nice to know that some developers are still looking out for us at the controller side of the deal. With its economy pricing of 29.99, there isn’t any reason, unless you side with Jack Thompson on issues of violence in games, for someone who hasn’t picked Ninja Gaiden up yet to go out and give this a try. If you liked the original, you’ll love this.
Remarkably enough, the best just got better with Ninja Gaiden Black, an updated version of last year's absolutely amazing Xbox action game. Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox didn't leave a lot of room for improvement, thanks to its astonishingly good presentation and fantastic action, which combined the depth and precision of a great fighting game with the settings and situations of a first-rate action adventure game. But this new installment seems bent on achieving nothing less than perfection by using last year's game as a starting point and fine-tuning its few issues, while also adding lots of new options and content, such as a lengthy series of stand-alone missions that emphasize the game's unbelievably intense, brutal, lighting-fast combat. The core game is still the same as before, but it's just as exciting today as it was last year.
Ninja Gaiden Black is quite an amazing game. There are a few problems such as weird camera angles during boss fights, and some of the weapons don´t have a lot of incentive to be used but those are really just details in a plethora of good results. Even though it´s a remake of a classic, all the extra content crammed into this new package could very well warrant another purchase. If you already own Ninja Gaiden and really enjoyed the experience, then you might want to pick this one up. And if you’ve never played Ninja Gaiden before, there has never been a better time to jump in.
XboxVideo Game Generation
Ninja Gaiden Black is, simply put, the definitive action game experience. It’s incredibly hard, it’s lightning fast, it’s very violent, and most of all it’s fun. With five difficulty settings across sixteen chapters, five costumes to unlock, over a dozen weapons new and old, great cinematics, and a fifty-level mission mode (each with five difficulty settings), this is a game you can keep coming back to for a long, long, long time. It’s true that it suffers from graphical slowdown in places, and that the game is so hard it may alienate new players, and that the story can be indecipherable if you don’t pay attention and is still stupid if you do, but this is still the best and purest action you can get, no questions asked. If you can beat the Master Ninja difficulty in the main quest, you’ve done something Biblical. Buy it. Buy it now.
Ninja Gaiden was one of those games that required true skill to play, and even with the easier Ninja Dog mode it remains no pushover. If you missed out on this title originally, now it is your time to grab it. Ninja Gaiden is one of the best titles ever released on the Xbox, and the improvements in Ninja Gaiden Black make it more accessible to those less skilled and introduces a healthy amount of new features for those seasoned masters among us.
XboxVideo Game Talk
Whether you have played the original Ninja Gaiden or not, Black is an upgrade that is definitely worth your time. There’s enough subtle new content to make it even more enjoyable than the first time around, and for $30 the amount of quality you get with the game is a steal. The new difficulty makes the game much more manageable for weekend warriors who can’t devote countless hours to improve their skill. The new cut scenes add some nice background and flesh out the game even more, and the Hurricane Pack additions add plenty of depth to the gameplay.

No one ever said that being a ninja was easy, but I can tell you for certain that being a ninja has never been this much fun. Don't wait, get your mitts on this game immediately.
This package is designed for two types of people: those who have been living under a rock (or possibly a fallen tree) since Ninja Gaiden 's release, and those who put the original game ahead of food, shelter, and romantic love. And at $30, it's the same as what you'd pay for a new copy of Ninja Gaiden (Colorless). If you consider yourself in one of the above-mentioned categories, pick up Ninja Gaiden Black immediately. Even those of us who don't fit the bill may join you while we wait for a true sequel.
While Ninja Gaiden Black can certainly be called one of the best Xbox games that has been released, or even one of the best games of this console generation, it still may not be a must-own for everyone. While the Hurricane Packs and Mission Mode are certainly noteworthy additions, they can be acquired for free. All in all, Ninja Gaiden Black is only a must-have for those who haven’t played Ninja Gaiden, and/or don’t have Xbox Live. People who already own Ninja Gaiden should either pass, or rent. Don’t get me wrong, Ninja Gaiden Black is an incredible game, but there are other, cheaper options that are available to cash-strapped gamers.
The levels are absolutely gorgeous and subtly detailed. Sound is highly appropriate, from quiet mood music while you attempt to get to a ledge that's just out of reach, to rocking techno tracks for boss fights and challenges. Once you finish the game on easy (go ahead, admit you're on easy mode) you get access to the even harder Mission Mode where you are dropped into a situation with enemies, a selection of weapons, and one goal: kill. If you were thorough enough to find all fifty Golden Scarabs for the blacksmith, the Ninja Gaiden arcade game will be available to play! I was midly disapointed that the original Ninja Gaiden trilogy does not appear on Ninja Gaiden Black, but I got over it. This is (as far as I know) the first time the arcade version has appeared on a console. This one is definitely worth picking up, especially if you missed it the first time.

Playing as a ninja who can perform such smooth and impressive maneuvers while cutting down enemies in rapid succession makes for an enjoyable game that can't be held back by a few minor issues. This, combined with the variety of weapons, intriguing locations, impressive graphics, and unique enemies that vary from gun-wielding soldiers to otherworldly demons, makes for one of the best action games on Xbox.
Ninja Gaiden didn't really need to be re-tooled and re-released because it's already one of the best games to be released for the Xbox console. Neverless, Ryu Hayabusa is back in black with more content and action then before. Tecmo has done the impossible and made this game better. It's beautiful thing!

If you actually beat the first Ninja Gaiden and have it in your collection already, there is no need to rush out and purchase Black. Black was basically geared toward those who don't have Live and didn't get a chance to play with the Hurricane Pack additions. You are basically getting the same game as before with a mission mode for $30. If you never bought the first Ninja Gaiden and have a burning desire in it, by all means go ahead. But if you have Live, 'd say you should buy the first one for half the price and download the Hurricane Packs.
XboxThe Video Game Critic
If you haven't played the original Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox, this game is a safe bet. But if you had your fill the first time around, this isn't a necessary upgrade.
In essence, Ninja Gaiden Black feels like the Director's Cut of a great DVD that came out a year ago. Special features, enhanced content and a low price tag make it an easy choice for newbies, but vets need to think twice if they want to drop the clams for an experience that's very similar to one that they already own. Kudos to Tecmo and Team Ninja for adding some great enhancements to an already great game. We just wish they would have released it like this in the first place.
Ninja Gaiden Black is a very engaging, deep and, most importantly, fun addition to the tired hack 'n' slash genre. People that couldn’t see what all the fuss was about first time round won’t find anything in this package that’ll change their minds. If you loved the original, however, you’ll surely find the new extras something to cheer about. So, is it worth shelling out for if you already own the original? The answer is a resounding yes.
