Ubisoft Blasts Off Hudson's New And Improved Bomberman In Europe And North America

Publishing deal brings gamers classic franchise with new twists for Nintendo DS™ and Sony PlayStation®2

    London, UK – January 27, 2005
    – Ubisoft, one of the world's largest videogame publishers, today announces that it has signed an exclusive deal with Hudson Soft Co., Ltd, a leading developer of game and entertainment software, to publish and distribute Bomberman DS for the Nintendo DS™ in Europe and North America and Bomberman Hardball for Sony's PlayStation®2 throughout Europe. The latest installments of the well-known action/puzzle series Bomberman will be released on PS2 this Spring and for the DS in Summer 2005.

Fans of the Bomberman multiplayer videogame will enjoy the smooth simplicity of the original gameplay but with the enhancement of 3D graphics. New enemy characters will join the familiar ones that led to its lasting popularity. Both Bomberman Hardball and Bomberman DS will offer a novel gaming experience that leverages the capabilities of each platform while remaining faithful to the spirit of the original game.

Bomberman Hardball for PlayStation®2 innovates on the brand's classic puzzle-based bombing action with new baseball, golf and tennis games each of which has single-player and multi-player modes. A new 'life' mode tied to the PS2 system clock provides a dynamic view of your character's day-to-day activities, and side challenges allow you to customize his or her appearance. Naturally, the traditional Bomberman game can be experienced through five different 'battle' modes for up to 4 players.

Bomberman DS will take advantage of the unique features of Nintendo's new handheld console. The intense battle action will take place on both screens of the console for a wider view of the game, with players able to access and use the menu via the Touch Screen function. Leading battles by voice input will be easy with the Nintendo DS™ voice recognition system and microphone: just 'SHOUT' and win your battle! Gamers can also choose between the 'standard' single-player mode and 'battle' mode where up to 8 people compete against each other via the wireless LAN feature.

"With this agreement, players will be able to relive the epic Bomberman experience with the latest technology provided by the PS2 and the unique features of the Nintendo DS™ handheld console," said Yves Guillemot, President and CEO of Ubisoft. "We're excited to bring Ubisoft's publishing expertise to the continuing legacy of Bomberman's adventures."

Bomberman makes an explosive debut on the DS.

Bomberman shows how the classic strategy-action game is twice as intense on two screens.

    Features

    • Eight players can battle it out simultaneously via a wireless LAN connection and only one Game Card is required
    • Bomberman challenges even the most die-hard Bomberman and puzzle-game fans with 100 stages
    • Play massive mazes created with the dual screen in mind
    • Bomberman supports the DS microphone via sound-recognition

The demolition man has arrived and LAN gamers have found a new addiction. With only one Game Card, up to eight players can battle either individually or as teams to show their battlefield bomber dominance. If you're all by your lonesome, however, Bomberman puts your skills to the test with 100 stages of do-or-die detonation.

In the single-player mode, your goal is to use your arsenal of explosives to blow up bricks to find a door to the next stage. After destroying all the enemies on the map, you go through the door to get to the next stage. Some of the bricks you blow up contain power-ups that increase your bomb radius, bomb power, speed and more. Activate these power-ups with the touch screen. Most stay with him until he loses a life.

Bomberman isn't for the faint of heart. Especially when getting into boss battles, the fast, intense gameplay will have you running for cover to avoid the blasts and your enemies.

The multiplayer battles offer endless gameplay possibilities. Once up to eight players have downloaded the multiplayer mode from just one Bomberman Game Card, you're faced with so many opportunities that you could spend all day just trying each one out. Multiplayer Bomberman features 29 stages, each with a unique set of rules. Some stages allow you to detonate your bombs by voice command and others feature tunnels that connect the gameplay on the top and bottom screens.

Within each stage, you can adjust the game rules. Select the number of battles you need to win, the length of the match and starting positions. For an even more frenzied experience, you can choose to cram all players on one screen instead of using both.

If more than two players hook up to battle, you can split into teams and work together. You're not immune to your teammates' bombs, so watch your step!

    Bottom Line

With an incredibly deep multiplayer mode and single Game Card download play, Bomberman brings down the house with its amazing replayability and straight-up fun.
