Make a note, people: 2005 was the year when Dragon Ball Z fighting games as a whole stopped being insults to the franchise, and stopped being guilty pleasures. (Or late 2004, I suppose, if you count Budokai 3; I don't, but...) Arc added many welcome features to an already good foundation — let's hope they're given the chance to refine and enhance them further. Even if it's by default, at the moment, this is the best fighting game on the DS.
Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2 is by far the best handheld DBZ game, period. The battle is fast and fierce, the visuals are stunning, and the amount of replay value crammed into the cart will keep any fan going for quite a long time. The addition of multiplayer was needed, though a single cart mode would have been nice, and the inclusion of a 30 person cast, combined with multiple story modes for all the main characters was ambitious and unexpected. Rather than offering a bare bones fighter reminiscent of the fairly strong GBA version, Atari went all out, offering fans an entirely new package that delivers Dragon Ball Z at its finest. While the game still has a few flaws in gameplay and story mode structure, its strengths far outweigh its weaknesses, putting Supersonic Warriors 2 high on the list for entertaining licensed games on the system.
Supersonic Warriors 2 searches for superior gameplay and DS-exclusive innovations, but overall this isn’t much more than a new version of the first game. The lack of variety within game modes, annoying music and repetitious combat left me with the same feeling I had after playing through the original. The new moves, new characters, and improved visuals, however, are surprisingly rewarding considering the rest of the game’s shortcomings. DBZ nuts should go nuts for this one, but they must be warned – the repetition doesn’t go away, it only builds with time.
Even with these setbacks, Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2 is an excellent addition to the DS lineup, and the best DBZ game out on any handheld console to date. If you consider yourself a DBZ fan, well... you know what to do.

Dragon Ball Z's first appearance on the DS is not what I would consider a special occasion. It's a deluxe version of the GBA title and not a heck of a lot more. If you're a diehard DBZaholic you might get more out of than most.
Gamers' Temple, The
If you’re unfamiliar with Dragon Ball Z and are looking for a challenging and deep fighter you may want to pass on this game. Dragon Ball Z fans will enjoy the game though, and should consider adding it to their portable game collection.
Though this title is fairly solid, it does have its fair share of shortcomings and it doesn't really excel at doing anything to appeal to gamers. It's another one of those titles that would appeal mainly to fans of the series. As much as I'm a fan of the DBZ series, if I was to choose between this title and a King of Fighters title for the GBA, I'd choose the latter without batting an eye.

Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2 is still OK, but considering the orders of magnitude by which the first Supersonic Warriors improved upon the gag-inducing Dragon Ball Z: Taiketsu, it's disappointing how superficial the changes found here are. Those satisfied with more of the same, along with marginally improved visuals, will do fine with Supersonic Warriors 2.
Supersonic Warriors erinnert in fast jeder Hinsicht an den Vorgänger – was ja nichts Schlechtes ist, schließlich zählt der zu den besseren DBZ-Versoftungen. Und für den Serienfreund gibt es hier jede Menge Aha-Effekte: Optisch und akustisch gibt es viele Parallelen, die sich überschneidenden Geschichten sind nett, wenn auch mit erheblichen Lücken versehen. Das Ganze wäre aber auch ohne größere Abstriche auch auf dem GBA möglich gewesen, die schlaffen 3D-Hintergründe und die bestenfalls oberflächliche Touchpad-Nutzung machen den Braten nicht fett – und die an den Klassiker »Art of Fighting« erinnernden Zoom-Spielereien sind auch nichts Neues mehr. Als eigenständiger Prügler mach SSW2 gegen Street Fighter und Co. nicht den geringsten Stich – Fans der Serie hingegen werden damit glücklich.
For a licensed game, Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2 isn't all that bad, but it also isn't that great. Despite a cast of over 30 characters, the part where each character uses the exact same moveset means things get tedious rather quickly. And except for the Branch fights that require a certain degree of strategy or patience, most fights can be beaten using the exact same button-mashing techniques as the fight before. Dragon Ball Z fans will certainly enjoy the varied cast of characters, not to mention the various branches of Story mode, but everyone else will be bored within a half-hour. Chalk this one up as yet another licensed game where the only people who will care are fans of the license, not gameplay.
Now as far as those other 2D DBZ games out there, this one's among the best but that's not saying much. As for me (because you care), I really wanted to like Super Sonic Warriors 2 but the more that I played it the less interested I became, and when you've got fresh tacos on the dinner table one must make sacrifices. Unfortunately for Atari, I chose tacos. Tacos...and taquitos. Ole!
