By the time you’re done with the game, you’ll feel slightly satisfied with it, but you’ll also feel slightly cheated because there could have been so much more to this game. However, it can only be taken so far since the F4 aren’t the same type of crime fighters like Spider-Man or Batman, so one can’t expect a free roam game. Unless you are a die hard Fantastic 4 fan, it’s hardly worth a purchase. Still, it’s a solid rental and a good way to spend some time having a bit of fun. If you really want to kick ass as the Fantastic 4, go play Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.

Rise of the Silver Surfer is a poorly-executed side scroller. It's marred by low production values, but more than that, it's just an uninspired game. Even if it were an amazing looking game with lots of touch screen elements, the gameplay is tired and repetitious. Even an online multiplayer mode couldn't save this game. It would be nice to play as each character in a Gauntlet-style format, but the lack of distinctive abilities for each of the four characters puts the kibosh on that dream. One could surmise that this game was doomed from the start.

Over the course of playing, we weren’t thinking "God this is terrible." We actually weren't thinking much at all because the game flowed along at an unnoticeable level of entertainment delivery. It was just sort of "there" and then it was "gone."

It was a game with potential, and instead it's simply a contractual obligation. Apart from the energetic musical score, there's nothing good about the Nintendo DS game. This is simply shelf fodder, the game grandparents will blindly buy for Little Timmy because the parents took him to see the movie.

While there's nothing especially broken about the Nintendo DS version of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, it's terribly short, and the gameplay is mostly uneventful. Also, the characters and story don't really jive with what transpired in the movie or what has happened in the long-running comic book series. It may not be the worst game ever, but it certainly isn't worth taking home.

We could go on and on about the game's flaws, from the underutilized touch screen controls to the unlockable comic book covers that are so low-res that they feel like more of a punishment than a reward. But why bother? There's no reason for you to ever play this waste of plastic. Avoid it at all costs.
