It's not often I can use the word "joy" to describe any aspect of a game, but as with previous Zelda games, I use it freely with Spirit Tracks. The game is simply a joy to play, deftly combining brain bending puzzles, classic boss battles and casual, breezy travel. The sights, the sounds, the characters, the environments, they all combine to make a game that may not represent as much of a move forward as its predecessor, but represents a high watermark in both handheld gaming and video games in general.

While we called GTA: Chinatwon Wars the best DS game ever made, it now has some serious competition in Spirit Tracks, which in turn leaves it down to a point of taste. If you can see yourself leading a childhood romance on an adventure of epic magnitude, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is the new dominant force, but if cutesy characters wearing green socks for headgear just aren't your thing, we'll let Rockstar maintain number one spot. For me personally though, this is the best the DS has to offer, and clearly one of the best entries in the Legend of Zelda series - about the only thing that could top it would be a DS-ified Ocarina of Time, until then bring on the next Wii Zelda!

Pure Nintendo
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is one of the best Zelda games I’ve ever played, period. It has a great storyline with unique elements that differentiate it from all the others in the series. Having Princess Zelda along for the adventure is a welcome, new idea and helps to liven up the experience. All of the improvements in level design, a massive world to explore, tons of new items to collect, and great boss battles make Spirit Tracks a must-own for any Zelda fan craving a new adventure.

As much as Majora's Mask proved an experimental, exciting and for many fans, superior upgrade to Ocarina of Time, Spirit Tracks bests Hourglass and many other Zelda titles before it. If the next Wii Zelda title will throw even more Zelda staples out the window, and Spirit Tracks represents the shape of things to come, then bring it on. In the meantime, this handheld Zelda title is not to be missed.

It's a very good game. But instead of coming up with a new universe, they've returned to something already established. Wind Waker's colourful aesthetic has been a source of much contention, but I've always adored it and am overjoyed to see it return again. The bold lines, simple colours and innocent aesthetic emphasises the idealism of the Zelda series at its finest: this tiny, wide-eyed boy can conquer unimaginable evil, and his stoic determination can achieve more than even omnipotent deities could manage. These games might be perfect for children, but they're as fine an example of gaming as any adult could hope to encounter.

Podsumowując, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks jest miłym zaskoczeniem po Phantom Hourglass.

When it released two years ago, Phantom Hourglass blew us away with impressive visuals, beautiful music, and a huge world packed with plenty to see and do. What it was missing, however, was some of the hardcore difficulty and classic dungeon puzzles that longtime Zelda fans have come to expect. What a difference two years makes. While Spirit Tracks has some obvious deja vu elements and can drag on from time to time, Nintendo's latest pocket Zelda trumps the first game hands-down, delivering amazing bosses once again, now complemented with impressive dungeons, a truly epic challenge in the Spirit Tower, and a substantially longer adventure overall. Nintendo fans now have two must-play Zelda offerings on DS, as Spirit Tracks is an adventure not to be missed. Pick it up. You won't be disappointed.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks doesn't change the formula of the Zelda games, and that's a good thing. What it does do is put an adventure on your plate as only few other games can, offer tons of small and large innovations like the magic flute and the fact that Zelda this time is your travel companion, and create a world in which you'll love to roam around with in your train. That the dungeons, puzzles and end bosses are of very high level and make very good use of the fact that you now can and have to control multiple characters is an additional reason to get this game in your collection.

Official Nintendo Magazine
While we we'd love to see Nintendo kick on and take the franchise to the next level, it'd be churlish to turn our noses up at such a high quality, relentlessly enjoyable product. Spirit Tracks is an essential entry in the Zelda series and one that will be stuck in our DSes for some time. Play it, love it, then start slobbering for that impending Wii reinvention.

Gaming Age
Basically, if you enjoy the Zelda series, you'll really dig Spirit Tracks, and as a standalone game it's pretty much accessible to any newcomer out there. It's a little harder than Phantom Hourglass, but not nearly as frustrating.

For everything that you may or not like about the angle that Spirit Tracks takes with the The Legend of Zelda franchise, you’d still have to admit that, while perhaps not the most essential title in the long series featuring the pointy eared protagonist, it’s still a fun time and very well executed game. If you’re looking for something to play on the road while on vacation, or hiding away from society in a bomb shelter until Christmas blows over, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks makes as good a companion as a Ghost Princess.

I suppose it's pretty much a given that Nintendo fans are always going to buy the latest Zelda game, but Spirit Tracks doesn't simply coast along on its legacy. Like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, it's a direct follow-up to a recent release that exceeds its predecessor in every way. And while it may not hit the soaring heights of Mario's latest, it's a fine game in its own right.

Spirit Tracks won't rebuild a lot of faith in a genre that's clearly showing signs of age but it's still an impressive title that proves one of the better entries in recent years.

This time around using the touch-screen is an entirely pleasant experience, especially after having discovered a new weapon in a given dungeon and then confronting one of the many epic new bosses, some of which span both of the DS’ two screens. Puzzle solving, boss battling, item using, rolling, slashing, everything works in tandem with the touch-screen, and all of it feels fluid and free, far from it’s predecessor’s stiff and frustrating feel. With the help of Zelda’s ghostly abilities and Nintendo’s reworked approach to the touch-screen, Spirit Tracks is a colorful and rewarding adventure to take, and is absolutely cut from the same cloth that those legendary Zelda handheld games of the past were. If you own a DS, and you agree that touching is good, then The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is for you, and anyone looking to embark on a casual quest that looks and feels good will feel right at home here.

Nintendo struck gold with Phantom Hourglass, but this new Zelda adventure builds upon that strong foundation considerably to deliver one of the best outings in the long-running series so far. It may not be completely flawless, but The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is definitely one of the DS 'must own' titles of 2009.

I know that it is almost certain that all the Zelda fans are going to buy all the titles related to the saga. I just ask you not to make the mistake of seeing "Spirit Tracks" as just an extra portable title. "Link’s Awakening" is enough proof that these versions are worthy enough and have distinguished the series since the beginning.

NintendoWorldReport
Spirit Tracks is a superb game and one of the best DS games this year. The dungeons are top-tier, entertaining affairs, and the train is fun to ride around in as you journey through the interesting game world. Unfortunately, if you didn't care for Phantom Hourglass, then this game won't bring you back into the portable Zelda fold.

Nintendo Life
If you can’t get enough of Link’s adventures, you’ll find plenty in Spirit Tracks to satiate your appetite for sliding block puzzles, treasure chests, trade quests and the like. Don’t expect huge surprises or stacks of completely new and innovative content, but do expect some new tricks from old items. It’s a quality game as was Phantom Hourglass before it, and even though at times it feels too much like a retread of past games, it remains a thoroughly enjoyable jaunt through Hyrule and puts most other DS titles to shame with its overall quality.

With the recent New Super Mario Bros. Wii and now Spirit Tracks, it's a joy to see Nintendo silence detractors who claim the company is only interested in making exercise simulators and brain-dead party games. Link's newest adventure is rife with hours of action and exploration, brimming with ingenious level design and deceptively smart puzzles. Twenty years on, Nintendo still manages to find ways to reinvent the franchise. Here's hoping for 20 more.

It is, in other words, vintage Nintendo. Maybe a bit too vintage - Spirit Tracks is, like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, a straight rehash, a derivative sequel of the kind the company used not to make, and based on a decades-old template. You could easily mark it down for that. But that would belie the fact that it's also a tighter and more rounded game, crafted with more care, than not just Phantom Hourglass but most modern games for grown-up consoles.

Nintendo have really mastered this series and The Legend Zelda: Spirit Tracks is a prime example of this that features two popular gaming characters from this interesting mythology. The story is classic Zelda that will appeal to a wide gamut of gamers and if you're after a fun and magical adventure game, than this is that game. Working with Zelda does add a new twist to the franchise as do all the various side quests and The Legend Zelda: Spirit Tracks was one of those games that when I first started playing, I did not put the console down for another 4 hours.

Apart from the bump in difficulty, and an overwhelming want for Nintendo to show off the DS’s capabilities, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is a winner that reinvigorates our love with the Zelda series. Hands down, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is another solid entry into its long list of great releases. The Spirit Tracks is a must own title for all those with a Nintendo DS.

It took me a little bit to get into the Zelda Spirit Tracks, but as I progressed I really started to enjoy the game. It doesn’t stray too far from the Zelda formula but that is not a bad thing by any means. Don’t let some minor quibbles prevent you from playing this very enjoyable chapter of the Zelda series as Nintendo effectively brings together several gameplay ideas together to form a great game overall.

Gamervision
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is another great entry in one of gaming’s most prolific series. It’s not without flaws, but it also offers some of the most fun handheld gameplay this year. There are very few things to complain about, though the game can get slowed down by the leisurely pace of the train, as well as Zelda’s tendency to dawdle in temples. Overall, though, Spirit Tracks is an enjoyable experience that shouldn’t be overlooked just because it snuck out so late in the year. This would be a good addition to the DS library of any gamer.

DS-x2
Nintendo has left what they tried to do on Spirit Tracks behind a bit and decided to focus on what made the original games great. When they put to the two together, they made a winning formula on the most part. There are many annoying design choices which Nintendo has included in the title which will disappoint. But overall Spirit Tracks is one of the most smoothest Zelda adventures yet, and it's in depth story brings what we loved of older handheld titles back into the new age.

Retrogaming History
Uno Zelda ben realizzato e consigliabile a chiunque.

Worth Playing
Despite those gripes, Spirit Tracks is still a well-rounded game. More importantly, it's a game that is difficult to dislike. It may not stand out as much as other Zelda titles, but Spirit Tracks offers a lot to keep gamers happy — as long as you don't plan to play it on the go.

You'll find plenty that's familiar in The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, but the inclusion of new mechanics, such as controlling both Link and Zelda, and the simple joy of driving the train lift this game above being just another Zelda adventure. This game is a top-notch adventure, and whether this is your first or 15th time in Hyrule, Spirit Tracks is a must-play.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks brings little new to the franchise, and that would be fine if what it did introduce wasn't tedious and clumsy. The train is an abomination. And, while there are good puzzles and fun dungeons, everything seems a little tired, brief, and empty. Hyrule has finally lost some of its charm and soul in what is most likely the series' worst entry. I just hope Zelda isn't truly dead.

Thankfully, it's still an enjoyable ride, and one we heartily recommend. The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is an excellent addition to Nintendo's celebrated franchise and a great way to close 2009. With that, feel free to channel your inner conductor.

Yo Zelda fans: buy this game. The warning above has been laid on thick enough, but you're up to the challenge and more than capable of making your own decisions about whether another crack at Zelda on the DS is your thing. If it is, it shouldn't matter at all that so much of Hourglass returns for Spirit Tracks. A list of each small nuance would make for a pretty boring review, so as superficial as it is we've given away as little of the story and the temple-to-temple action as possible. Much of the joy is discovering it all for yourself.

The Video Game Critic
Spirit Tracks offers a number of mini-games and collectibles, but frankly I didn't find any of them worthwhile. Still, the game has a nice sense of progression, and the snow areas are especially fun. You can save your progress at any time, and you'll want to do so on a regular basis. The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks relies a little too heavily on gimmicks, but after you invest some time in it, you'll be on board.
70
Gamestyle
It's hard to remain positive about Spirit Tracks, due to the disappointment it carries. The foundations laid by Phantom Hourglass aren't built upon, but reinforced. It's a solid game, and if you enjoyed Phantom Hourglass, you'll most likely enjoy Spirit Tracks, but it feels so similar that Gamestyle would go so far as to say that it would be a wasted purchase. On its own, however, it retains most of the elements that have made the Zelda series the success it has been, and if the train elements don't bore you, there are many hours of entertainment to be had. Gamestyle just can't recall a Zelda game that has had as little effort put into its creation. Maybe it's indicative of Nintendo's current business model; making family friendly games that are simple, and won't rock the boat. Yes, they had a winner with Phantom Hourglass, but Spirit Tracks reeks of complacency.
60
Game Arena
Of course, if you're a fan of the Legend of Zelda series you'll play it anyway, and while it might be despairingly easy, it might be an enjoyable game for a casual gamer new to the series. I would prefer it if it was just train operating, but then I guess it would be difficult to call it a Legend of Zelda game. Although if Spirit Tracks is the best they can do, maybe they should retire the Zelda games anyway.

Legendra

Gaming since 198x
Autant relancer A Link to the Past que s'infliger ça.
