    Go Loudly into the Night

These Garden Children are grown killers!

Here is a fine strategy-RPG that blends plenty of tactical depth with a surprisingly deep story that grapples with issues of faith and religion.

Post-battle conversations between the hero and party members deepen character development. Each member of your diverse party learns new abilities and skills unique to their class. Character progression is quite linear, though, and the writing gets a bit heavy-handed, with the attempts at humor frequently falling flat.

The excellent score by industry veteran Yasunori Mitsuda deserves special plaudits. Luminous Arc includes an impressive amount of voice, although the performances are uneven.

The backstory has dragons and Witches warring against God one thousand years ago over the fate of the world. God's power was triumphant, but it was a difficult struggle, and the deity sent Himself into a deep sleep to recover from the terrible wounds he suffered in the battle. Ten years ago, the Church has proclaimed that a great event will soon occur: God will be reborn, and the world will be led into a new golden age under His guidance. However, this news is coupled with a grave warning: the Witches will soon reappear to begin the millennia-old conflict once again.

Take control of the Garden Children, a group of fighters and mages trained since childhood and dedicated to eradicating the Witch threat, and discover the mysteries behind their return, their motives, and their history! Protect the Light, condemn the Dark!

    Bottom Line

Though not perfect, Lumious Arc impresses. Look forward to more offerings from tyro developer imageepoch, which collaborated with Marvelous Interactive on this game.
