Nintendo excelled with this title through the inclusion of an in-game construction kit. You can create your very own levels to challenge yourself with and then share locally via wireless with friends or over the Nintendo Wi-fi connection. In true console fashion you can unlock construction kit components as you progress through the standard 80 levels, so be sure to complete each floor carefully to maximize on your construction options.

Nintendo have done a phenomenal job trying to appeal to everybody with this strictly strategic game and as such, Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis really shows off the true abilities and appeal of the DS. The gameplay is great fun and varies throughout with new themes, changing obstacles and introducing great new abilities for the minis at a carefully planned and gradual pace. It looks great, it sounds great and the WiFi functionality is a wonderful surprise that we're only used to seeing on the PSP - Nintendo has shown why the DS is a great piece of hardware by re-imagining a truly classic genre. It's just a shame that players have to stamp on poor DK's heart yet again and help out that ruthless Mario!

Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 is one of the most addicting and entertaining games currently available on the Nintendo DS. The game makes great use of the touch screen (and your logical thinking skills). If you have even a passing interest in puzzle games, you should give this a try.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis seems to me to be the logical sequel to the GBA version. With more processing capabilities, the touch controls, and the dual screen all available on the DS, this version although somewhat limited in scope, has much more depth and greater production values.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis is a fun loving puzzle game that has taken a few notes from those little green Lemmings. The gameplay all revolves around the touch screen, and the puzzles and boss battles are interesting and well designed. Plus you have the ability to create and download new levels and you have a game that could stick around in your collection until Mario challenges Donkey Kong again. Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 is highly recommended for puzzle game fans.

Released in 2004, Mario vs. Donkey Kong for the Game Boy Advance took a decidedly more puzzle-oriented look at the infamous conflict between Italian plumber mascots and oversized apes that has captivated a generation for more than a quarter century. It was a unique and enjoyable spin on the typical Mario brand of platforming, though it was also a little on the easy and short side. Now the battle comes to the Nintendo DS in Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, a full-blown sequel that changes up the formula significantly. Touch-screen controls play a heavy role in the gameplay, and no longer do you control Mario himself; rather, you'll control the Mini-Marios that you frequently rescued in the first game. Throw in a new level-creator mode, an attractive presentation, and plenty of Donkey Kong-style monkey business, and you've got yourself an even better package than the original.

Oh yes!

Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 has one of the best level creators we've seen to date. Because of its 2D layout and various themes, crafting your own stage is both exciting and user-friendly. Show them off to friends wirelessly, or upload them via Nintendo Wi-Fi. You can also download user-made levels, meaning there's no end to the number of stages you can play (the game card saves 32 downloaded levels).

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: March of the Minis is an extremely refreshing puzzler that should find a huge audience on Nintendo DS. It may not have the legacy of Lemmings or the multiplayer gaming of Worms, but its stages are brilliantly crafted and the creator can't be beat. Just don't let us catch you phoning in another performance, Mario; it's our game-buying dollars that pay your salary.

If you're good enough, it'll last ages. If you're just an amateur, at least you'll get to see the ending. What's not to like?

Sequel to the GBA game, Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 has many new opportunities thanks to the DS touchscreen. Unfortunately, this results in slightly more frustration than innovation. Overall, MVDK2 is a nice puzzler, but is more frustrating and offers less than Lemmings. The level editor is nice, but the easy difficulty and length of the game are certainly drawbacks.

Its just Lemmings, but with better graphics, touch-screen controls, and Mario. But hey, everyone loves Lemmings and Mario, right? If either one of these facets entertains you, then chances are you'll "Mario Vs Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis". However, if puzzle games in the style of lemmings aren't your thing, then you'll probably wonder what all the fuss is about; after all, the gameplay mechanics are some 20 years old. Still, the game is a fun puzzler, reinvigorated by the occasional cut-scenes and touch screen controls. There are better DS games available, including better puzzlers, but this can still be an awful lot of fun!

Mario vs Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis is a sound game. While it doesn't cover any new ground and isn't pushing the DS in any way, it's a fun and easy to get into puzzle platformer that will keep you hooked if you give it enough time- especially if you play around with the level editor. It's certainly nowhere near unit-mover status, like most of the other first-party Nintendo DS games, but it's a simple and stylish affair that is worth a purchase if you've got gaming money burning a hole in your pocket.

So what's this pleasant puzzle diversion worth in the grand scheme of all things DS? On the plus side there's nothing quite like March of the Minis on the platform; it's yet another game oozing with intuitive Nintendo design genius that makes it an instantly pleasurable game to pick up and enjoy from the start. But although it's the sort of game that lends itself perfectly to short commutes and coffee breaks, its strengths are also its Achilles heel - many won't appreciate the simplicity, or the fact that there doesn't appear to be enough of a substantial challenge to grab your attention for very long. Not for everyone, then, but well worth further investigation if puzzling's your thing.

The very definition of a "pick up and play" video game, Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 strikes a comfortable balance between bite-sized gameplay and respectable longevity. It could use some tighter controls and a multiplayer mode, but it's a competent addition to the DS' line of puzzlers.

So, in a nutshell, Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 is a mixed blessing. It's got some fun and elaborate puzzles, although some get a tad too elaborate to manage at once. Also, certain parts of the gameplay mechanic, such as the responsiveness of the touch screen while steering Mini-Marios around, don't function as well as we would have liked. Still, for those who find themselves drawn to the game, the title's stringent requirements for a gold star will generate lots of replay value, just as the excellent Wi-Fi setup will. Even if Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 apes Lemmings on PSP (again, no pun intended), it emulates most of that game's best elements, although its flaws seem to be rooted in both the hardware and its inability to sustain the previous game's sense of joy.

IGN
The original Mario vs. Donkey Kong is a far better puzzle game than March of the Minis is, but that doesn't make this game a bad one. It is a clever Lemmings-inspired, touch screen design with a great focus on user-submitted content to keep the game going on and on. Its similarities to the first game are only in looks; the concept goes in a refreshingly different -- but just not as successful, addictive or challenging -- direction for Nintendo DS gamers.

Game Informer Magazine
The original Mario vs. Donkey Kong has a neat concept behind it: Lead Mario through some mazes with his platforming skills, collecting helpless toys along the way. Unfortunately, I didn’t think that game lived up to its potential, and its underachieving sequel is even less successful. Dropping the platforming elements completely, Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis focuses squarely on the Mario toys and mazes, and is closer to a simplified version of Lemmings than the original game.

A little more development time to polish some control quirks and hide away 20 or so super-difficult levels for the intrepid, and March of the Minis would have been a much more memorable DS release. Ultimately the finished product is a decent DS puzzler that falls short of being a must-own.
