Global map can be zoomed and it should be when commanding your troops.
By the power of the upper menu, you'll have more then you'll ask for options.
Beside the desert and grassy terrains, the battles will also took place in cities.
On zoomed map you'll clearly see coordinates and your troops movement.
Beside americans, as allied forces you can also control soviet forces.
Soviet forces assaulting Germany.
The actual battle is a bit mixture of real-time and turn-based.
