Don't let its cutesy appearance fool you; Ordyne is a shoot 'em up to the core, but with some excellent twists on the genre. Originally released only in Japanese arcades, the game flew across the ocean and landed on the TurboGrafx-16 in the US in 1989. Now, it's back for another go around on the Wii™ Virtual Console™!
In Ordyne, you are resident genius Dr. Tomari, who's engaged to the lovely Miss Kana. Of course, no videogame is complete without a kidnapping, so the evil Kubota nabs Kana. Dr. Tomari, being a good fiancee, sets off to rescue her. In your search, you'll fly through 7 different levels over air, land and sea, using your lasers and bombs to blow through a wide variety of enemies.
You're not alone in your journey, though. Along the way, you'll stop by the Air Inn to spend your hard-earned crystals, which are dropped by defeated enemies. While there, you can buy one of three available power-ups, although there are seven power-ups in total, ranging from the Vulcan cannon and Wide shot to the Fire Bom and Stock Bomber. This method makes powering-up much simpler, as you don't have to worry about avoiding power-ups (not to mention enemies) so you don't lose the one you already have! In addition to the Inn, when you come across the robotic Dream Co., Ltd., you'll get the chance to win prizes like a ton of crystals or a special weapon.
Of course, what rescue story is complete without a good buddy helping out? If you've got an extra controller for a friend to use, he/she can hop into a green flyer and help you blast your way through enemies in the 2-player co-op mode! Go find that extra controller and go find that extra friend, then grab Ordyne for the Wii™ Virtual Console™ today!

Ordyne is a port of the popular side-scrolling arcade shooter that includes simultaneous 2-player co-op play as well as impressive visuals and catchy background music. The evil Kubota has kidnapped Dr. Tomari’s fiancée Kana and taken the colossal nuclear reactor Ordyne. In order to reclaim them, Dr. Tomari and his assistant Felix take to their battleships and head in pursuit. Avoid enemies and advance through 7 different levels that take place on land, sea, and air. Collect Crystals from defeated enemies and use them to buy items or upgrades for your ship at the Space Inn. Do you have what it takes to defeat the boss at the end of each level and ultimately reach Kubota in the final stage, Kubota World?
