From my perspective, a perspective that has a soft spot for the glorification of mass destruction, the pros definitely outweigh the cons in this sloppily fought war. For every second that it plays with your nerves, it delivers hours of senseless and just flat-out fun violence. After all, it's not every day that you can click a button to make a tank parachute out of the sky and right into your lap...or perhaps onto the heads of your enemies.

If modern war games aren't your style, try on this Nazi neutralizer. Realism is an afterthought in this outrageous squad-based shooter that encourages demolition over diplomacy.

If all you're looking for out of you $60 is a relaxing, casual way to do a ton of damage to both your surroundings and the enemy. The Outfit certainly won't steer you wrong. For those whose tastes run more toward competition or challenge, this could well be a recipe for disappointment.

In the end, however, The Outfit is almost a little above average. It has a great idea, but it just fails to implement it properly or with any real sense of fun. Give it a rental if you are curious.

I enjoyed my time with The Outfit, probably more than most of you will, simply because it deals with material I enjoy on a daily basis. There are dozens of games out there that look better and play better, offering a greater scope in story and gameplay. But even so, there is a solid core gaming premise here and one that I hope is polished and refined in a future sequel. Until that day, your military service might better be served in any of the other battlefield-style games.

I like what a game like The Outfit brings to the table. It tries to take a game that's been done many times before, and add something to it that gives it a seperate identity. Relic and THQ are actually onto something here. The Outfit is not a bad game really, it's just not on the level of "next-generation". But it is a good online game, and if you can get around some of the goofy vehicle controls, this is still a decent bit of fun. I'm interested in seeing what Relic does with this game from here.

Again, the best way to describe the experience of playing The Outfit is that it's a sweet n' sour game. Sweet in that the title boasts a massive, fully destructible environment with an impressive arsenal of weaponry and some really fantastic and innovative multiplayer. Sour in that the single-player experience grows repetitive and boring over time, and the broken vehicle mechanics really drag down gameplay. To a degree, the excellent Xbox Live implementation really keeps the game from bogging down into mediocrity, but it's not a game without flaws. Exclusively single-player gamers won't find much to enjoy here, but those who want a fun online experience should be able to forgive the game's issues and have fun taking out as many of Ze Germans as ze eye can see.

The Outfit does suffer from the fact it’s one of the first games for the new console, but THQ have done a competent job in bringing a unique World War II game to the system and they have to be commended for at least not going down the path of first person shooter ala COD and Medal of Honor. It’s action all the way with this one and it will provide at least a few hours of fun gameplay.

If it's not clear already, The Outfit's most impressive aspect is the addictive nature of the multiplayer portion. The single player campaign is an excellent effort at originality, but the execution leaves much to be desired. The lack of a compelling storyline, average gameplay mechanics, and linear level design hamper the quality of the title. I can only recommend The Outfit at a $30 to $40 price point for Xbox Live users that are interested in a quirky Battlefield clone. Everyone else should give the title a rent when the current deluge of recent Xbox 360 titles begins to taper off. Also, check out the demo on the Marketplace for further review.

The Outfit, whilst being a fun and enjoyable game to play, is let down by issues that could have been avoided. The idea of bringing the real-time strategy idea into a shoot'em-up could also have been executed better as it feels a bit tactically challenged at some points. Overall, if you're looking for a good multiplayer game to play online, or with some friends, then this could be what you're looking for. If your looking for a game to play by yourself, you might be let down by the blandness and linearity of the campaign mode.

Forget about "careful." This World War II shooter emphasizes carnage and raw firepower over tactics and planning. You and your A.I. squad must capture strategic bases (a la Battlefield) and explode Nazis with your guns, all while spending experience points (called FUs) on firepower (vehicles, gun emplacements, soldiers, etc.) that's air-dropped down in real time. It's the opposite of realistic, but the potential for fun is still there.

Now, here's a novelty. "Another WWII game" that not only isn't an FPS, but actually has colors in it. You know, besides brown and gray.

THQ and Relic shouldn't be punished for creating a new game. This is an original title not based on a franchise or a sequel. We applaud their resistance to do the same ol' same ol'. Unfortunately, The Outfit is neither attractive looking, nor is it as arcade-like and fun to play as it should be. The single-player game is repetitive and plodding. There is tons of potential to be explored here that isn't. The multiplayer game is great fun, if you can get past the shoddy character controls, the annoying vehicles, and the lack of polish that seems to rear its big head at nearly every turn.

Neither a teeth-rattling action game, nor a highly cerebral strategy game, The Outfit tries to split the difference, effectively putting you in the role of both front-line grunt and field commander as you march across WWII-torn France. Cross-pollinating genres like this is tricky, and though it puts in a good effort, The Outfit doesn't quite pull it off, leaving both the action and strategy elements compromised. The multiplayer game copes with The Outfit's shortcomings much more ably than the single-player campaign, but it remains a game difficult to wholeheartedly recommend, regardless.

The Outfit had good intentions of providing a new, refreshing and laid-back approach to the overfilled 3rd person shooter genre, but it fails in successfully pulling off most of its plans. The cutscenes that occur in-between missions are usually entertaining and non-serious, sticking true to the games premise, however, the overly repetitive nature of the single player campaign leaves plenty to be desired. The frantic and usually enjoyable multiplayer modes to help make up for some lost gameplay life, although, not all gamers will fancy the multiplayer gameplay. Ultimately, its a hit or miss affair; some players will enjoy and appreciate the simplistic appeal that the game offers, while others will bore of what is on offer within only a few short hours.

While I have to praise The Outfit for its interesting concept and entertaining multiplayer possibilities, I have to criticize it for Xbox visuals, the dumb-as-a-brick storyline and miserable targeting system. If you're still curious, I guess you wouldn't be shooting yourself in the foot if you rented The Outfit, but it's not worth $60 or even $50. If you want a good Nazi-killing experience and you've already played through Call of Duty 2 five times, I'm afraid that you're out of luck until EA drops in this November with Medal of Honor: Airborne or play Call of Duty 2 five more times.

A WW2 shooter that lobs in some real-time strategy elements alongside the usual grenades. You and you squad of Marines go Nazi-hunting, and the more enemies you kill and bases you snatch, the more points you get.

Firing in the opposite direction of the seasoned gamer, The Outfit will only appeal to casual gamers who prefer to smash and grab their way through levels rather than apply strategy.

THQ and Relic deserve credit for taking a chance to create a new IP based on a new gameplay mechanic and for moderately succeeding. But it is unfortunate that they allowed such issues to bog down the title. The Outfit is great for those who can survive frustrating vehicles and want to put the time in to mine the depths of the gameplay.

Overall The Outfit was a disappointing affair. This had been a game I had really looked forward to playing yet I was left miserable and frustrated. I cannot be all together moody with the game as it did feature quite a lot of fun moments, but repeating basically the same objectives from mission to mission quickly became boring and coupled with the problems only leaves me to say that this game is lukewarm at best… its not quite cold, but it’s certainly not hot-to-trot either.

Digital Press - Classic Video Games
The Outfit gets stuck in the disappointing spot of being utterly forgettable unless you have a few people who will always be available for online play. The single player is the title's most awful aspect, and it only gets worse as the game goes on. There are far too many other superb Xbox 360 titles to be playing this right now, or ever for that matter.
