Oozing playability, variety and presentational polish, Europa is one trip you really must go on.

Outrun Europa is definitely the best of the Outrun series. It is extremely fast and the update is very smooth indeed, even with the large amount of side objects present on each level. The graphics are very detailed, even on the enemy vehicles. Although there are seven levels, every single one is extremely hard and you will need great skill to progress. US Gold are producing some really top quality stuff and Outrun Europa adds another notch to their success story. Outrun Europa should not be missed.

Outrun Europa scales incredibly smooth for a GG game. The action is fast paced and diverse, and the control is great! Hopefully the first in a long line of quality 2nd generation GG carts.

Driving games aren't everyone's cup of tea. US Gold have tried to incorporate a small bit of everything to appeal to the masses. Seven different levels, five modes of transport and some mean missiles makes sure the game doesn't get boring. The graphics have been drawn to a high standard and the sound effects are worth tuning up the volume for. The playability is the thing that makes this game so good. With all the different levels and vehicles, you can't go wrong. The difficulty for each stage has been set to perfection, making progress fun but not too hard. This shows you just how good the first two attempts should have been.

The game is smooth, and the plot is ... err ... original! The graphics are quite good, the music is average. The seven levels are quite packed, the Police are also on your tail, for speeding most of the time! So beware! I found that the game was quite good fun... I think that this is certainly is the best game of the series... no doubt!

OutRun Europa was scheduled for release sometime around the 3rd Century BC. but has been 'in development' since then. And it's been well worth the wait (unless you've died in the meantime). It's a quick game (thank goodness) and it's also a big game - there are loads of megalicious roadside graphics to drive past, as well as big sprites of the cars and vehicles. So if you're a fan of Turbo OutRun, SCI or any 3D racing game, you'll want to smash that stupid pink and blue piggy-bank you got for Christmas and rush out to the shops for a copy. Go on, do it now!

Europa is by far the best game in the Out Run series, and a worthy addition to anyone's software collection. With excellent presentation, admirable graphics and a speedy pace to fuel the fires of interest it's a particularly good game to kill a week or two with. It's not as good as Lotus, though...

Europa comes in as quite expensive at £25, especially when you compare it to some of the budget drive-em-ups that are around at the moment. But for die-hard fans of the genre it just manages to hold its head up against the likes of the full-price Lotus Turbo II or Indy 500. If you completed the original, enjoyed its turbo-charged sequel and are just itching for plenty more of the same then you probably won't be disappointed.

Despite the graphical good points OutRun Europa comes across as a game out of time - next to modern rivals, it seems thin, uncontrollable, cartoony and just a little childish.

This certainly had plenty of potential - the idea of different modes of transport, each sporting deadly weapons is great - but unfortunately the game is let down by jerky 3D and lack of variety. The roadside objects, although large and impressive, are completely unnecessary. They should have been dumped and replaced by more enemy cars and faster, smoother 3D. The main problem, however, is that there are basically only two different levels: water and road. The bike, Porsche and Ferrari levels are all identical except for the main sprite and roadside objects. The same fault is apparent in the jetski and speedboat levels. If it's racing thrills and spills you're after, check out Fire and Forget II, Chase HQ, Battle Outrun or Outrun - they're all much more exciting than this.
