OutRun has always been one of my favourite childhood games. I used to spend so much time with this gem when I was younger, from the early arcade machine days to the day I finally got it installed on my 486 machine. If you haven't played this game, you have lost out on an important piece of the gaming history. The music in the game is classic, and you can choose one out of three themes to listen to. And there is nothing bad to say about the graphic or gameplay. Even 17 years after its release, this game is awesome. A must have!

You simply will not find another Genesis game that makes better use of color - this game is gorgeous. The best stage of all is the opening stretch where you race alongside a sunny beach. If those bright sands, palm trees, cumulus clouds, and deep blue skies don't put you in the mind of summer, then there is no hope for you. Outrun's visual flaws are limited to a choppy-looking beach and clouds that sometimes look like a frickin' tidal wave coming over you! The soundtrack's pleasant tunes convey a carefree, tropical vibe. Long-time fans should recognize titles like "Splash Wave", "Passing Breeze", and "Magical Sound Shower". And be sure to check out the cool stereo effects whenever you pass a car! Simple to play and easy on the eyes, Outrun is arcade racing action at its best.

Aside from some minor scaling issues and the dimmed colors, Out Run for the Genesis is a great game to play and own. I love the feel it has and those endings still crack me up. If you like racers with a twist, check this version out. You won't regret it.

An annoying feature of the conversion is the Ferrari's instant stop when the time reaches zero, compared with the gradual deceleration of the coin-op game. Despite the occasional graphic omissions and the multiloading, the ST Out Run has been worth the wait and is an admirable conversion of an incredible coin-op... and yet, don't expect too much of the game even though it is on the ST,

Despite limitations, such as the decrease in screen size (resulting in a squashed, but sleek-looking Ferrari), Out Run plays well on the Amiga and is a commendable conversion.

Out Run is instantly very playable, with good sound - although the three tunes do rather resemble each other, they do add a nice atmosphere. The graphics, however, are a let down; the backgrounds are well drawn, but on the racetrack things are not all good.

It's an excellent conversion of the game and captures the feel and action of the arcade version. However, it is a little on the easy side and it won't take long to exhaust the routes. If you seek life in the fast lane, Out Run delivers.

Although it fails to be the classic it was in the arcades, the Mega Drive version is on of the best I've played.

Non è quel capolavoro del coin-op, ma rimane sempre un buon giochino di giuda con visuale dietro la vettura.

Out Run has a serious flaw, which only becomes apparent on playing. It is far, far too easy, and completing a course within a few goes is a task even the most novice of budding Testarossa drivers won't find difficult. Consequently, lasting appeal is severely lacking.

Sample the greatest racing game at the arcades in the comfort of your own home, and now for only 8 quid!

ZX SpectrumThe Games Machine (UK)
Nearly all the features of the arcade machine have been squeezed into the Spectrum, but at the expense of speed and an arduous multi-load. At the end of each track, the action freezes while another level is loaded, and depending on the course taken, waits can be teeth-grittingly long.

There are only two lanes on the road, which I found to be quite a disappointment. Another major gripe is the lack of other road users on the same stretch as yourself. To sum up, a somewhat average racing game that fails to show the power of this Sega portable.

Without the exhilerating graphics and other cosmetics, Out Run on the 64 is little more than a mediocre racing game - certainly not the greatest home computer arcade conversion of all time as the blurb proudly proclaims. The worst thing about a conversion like this which has so much build up is the inevitable let down it incurs.

Semelhante aos fliperamas com carros de corrida, este jogo tem cinco etapas, com cinco traçados a percorrer.

I've played several versions of this game, and I'm fairly satisfied with this one. In this arcade racer you speed your convertible down a highway that cuts through many different environments. Forks in the road allow you to select your path, which adds to the game's replay value. The backgrounds aren't spectacular, but the change of scenery spices up the monotonous gameplay. Basically you just need to stay on the road and avoid oncoming cars. The road is wide and the control is good. Unfortunately, when you crash the people don't fly out like they did in the arcade (couldn't they have squeezed that in?). Your car looks great, but the oncoming cars are distorted. The scaling scenery is choppy, but that's okay because it's basically just eye candy anyway. At the beginning of the game, you can select your background music. Outrun is likable enough, but not all that exciting.

At the end of the day it's hard to look past OutRun's bad graphics, broken game play, and disappointing sense of speed. This just isn't a quality port of an otherwise good arcade game. There were moments when I played it that I could see brief glimpses of the greatness that I remembered in the arcade, but those were too few and far between. Just look elsewhere when choosing an 8-bit arcade racer.

Out Run is okay, but there doesn't seem much point to it with mini-stages, no junctions and basic graphics.

I reckon that if a company converts a game such as Out Run to the home market, then they should try and make up for the loss of the control system and hydraulic movement by making the 3D movement effective and atmospheric. Instead of doing this, US Gold have merely created a pretty unthrilling racing game which captures little of the feel of the original. The graphics are jerky and ineffective, with some of the most horrendous mistakes imaginable. For example, when turning from side to side, the driver and passenger swap sides! The only notable presentation piece is the loading sequence – and even that is very self indulgent. Considering the power of the machine, Out Run should have been a lot better.

There's really little to recommend Out Run, and I have become bored with attempting to catalogue its plenitude of disasters.
