Panzer Corps is a straight remake of Panzer General. The only significant changes are higher resolution graphics (still on a 2D map), the absence of Northern Africa, an integrated play-by-mail multiplayer mode and some minor rule changes.

The player takes the role of Germany and tries to win World War II. The game is limited to the military aspect and offers single, turn-based battles which are connected in four non-linear campaigns. The campaigns branch depending on the player's successes - it is not only important to win a battle, but to win it fast. Because of that the game features fictional scenarios, including the invasion of Washington.

Just like in the original the player has to carefully manage many different unit types with advantages and disadvantages. Prestige points, earned by battle victories, are the main resource of the game: they are used to buy and upgrade units. Surviving units are carried over to the next scenario, earn experience points and grow stronger.
