Pitfall: The Lost Expedition is a great game made from a true classic. The main Pitfall game is a little short, but there are a few secrets along the way to pull you in and keep you interested. This is a must for fans of Pitfall or platforming games.

Pitfall: The Lost Expedition should be on every gamers list that enjoys a good plat forming based adventure. Pitfall has all the right touches and you will not be disappointed in the original platform guru, Pitfall Harry.

Pitfall the Lost Expedition is an action arcade game similar to Indiana Jones and the Last Emperor and to a lesser degree, Tomb Raider. My main complaint with those two games was the poor gameplay control on both the keyboard and gamepad. I wasn’t comfortable playing Pitfall with my gamepad, but the keyboard scheme turned out to be very intuitive. Players must guide Harry through a dangerous adventure that requires a lot of jumping, climbing and rope swinging challenges. This may sound like a harrowing experience for PC gamers. Jumping puzzles don’t always translate very well onto the PC but I must admit that I found Pitfall to be quite good and can recommend it to fans of the genre.

Pitfall has its flaws, which I've pointed out in both this review and my review of the PS2 version. But what I've found in reviewing two versions of the same game is that, unlike most titles which become boring quickly, Pitfall: The Lost Expedition is still fun. It's good for multiple play-throughs in a row. How many games can you say that about? I can list a few, most of which were released a year or two ago. If nothing else, this game captured the essence of what it means to be a fun game.

Video gaming's first platforming action star without dungarees, an Italian accent, and alarming facial hair, hasn't weathered the last two decades with anything like the respect of the Italian Stallion. Activision still thinks there's enough in this franchise to salvage, so they greenlit Pitfall: The Lost Expedition, and hoped gamers had short-term memory loss after Pitfall 3D. They needn't have worried; this Pitfall is one of the finest platforming romps of the year. Shocking, but true!

Pitfall Harry's had a more checkered career than Gary Busey, from the slightly archaic, but undeniably fun Pitfall! to Harry's "Village People" phase where he donned a large red helmet and went into Pitfall 2: Lost Caverns, and lost it all in the turgid Pitfall 3D. Are you preparing to forgive Activision with the release of Pitfall: The Lost Expedition? You should; it's an astonishing breath of fresh air in this otherwise fetid carcass of a franchise.

Does this game need an introduction? I think most of you would expect me to talk about the past and what the original Pitfall was like. But that's old news. There's a good chance that you've played it at least once even if you weren't born when it was originally released.

Pity poor Pitfall Harry. After starting life without clothing, face, or indeed any semblance of form in the seminal Pitfall! 22 years ago, he was then forced to wear a large red miner's hat in his attempted comeback, Pitfall 2: Lost Caverns. Then, after a 15-year lull came his last insult; Pitfall 3D Beyond the Jungle, cruelly nicknamed "Pitiful 3D," which makes Harry's triumphant return all the more shocking, then satisfying, and then shocking again, followed by a sense of supreme gratification.

Some of the IGN editors aren't impressed with Pitfall: The Lost Expedition, but I'm not one of them. This is a worthy sequel to the classic franchise in every way. Tight control, innovative single-arm abilities, and huge, ambient, varied environments to explore; classic play elements reborn in 3D such as the abilities to run on crocs, swing on vines, jump across pits, and battle scorpions; and it looks pretty good, too. This is an overall fun, engaging title that successfully mixes the platformer and adventure genres.

If you're old enough to recognize the word 'Atari' as something more than a brand printed on trendy T-shirts then you almost certainly also remember Activision's classic Pitfall adventure. The title, which debuted in 1982 for the gone, but not forgotten 2600, pioneered the-then-underdeveloped adventure genre and left a whole slew of budding gamers daydreaming about scorpion-filled tunnels and platform-ready crocodiles. Since then, the Pitfall franchise has been reborn again and again in sequels across a wide spectrum of consoles.

Overall though, Pitfall: The Lost Expedition is a good platforming experience that is only somewhat overshadowed by its limited gamespan. However, it’s a solid return to next gen consoles for Pitfall Harry, and the inclusion of the original Pitfall and Pitfall II games makes this a must have for action fans. Let’s hope that the next adventure of Harry’s is just a bit longer next time…

If I ask you about old action games, what immediately comes to mind? Super Mario Brothers? Ghosts and Goblins? Bionic Commando, perhaps? Potentially “Mega Man” Good guesses, but all of these owe their fundamental game mechanics to an oft-overlooked seminal title that spawned a genre. I’m talking about 1982’s immensely popular Pitfall title on the legendary Atari 2600. Almost an homage to Indiana Jones, Pitfall Harry was an adventurer who traversed dangerous jungle terrain and avoided animals while gathering gold and cash. Staying away from consoles for quite a while, Harry’s coming out of the underbrush for a new adventure from Activision called Pitfall: The Lost Expedition.

Pitfall: The Lost Expedition is a fun, entertaining, humorous platformer with its flaws. A lot of what makes the game as good as it is, is the elements it borrows from other already-established games, such as Metroid Prime, the Zelda series and even Prince of Persia. The storyline starts off un-compelling, but as you progress into the game, it becomes a bit more engaging. And by the time the credits roll, you should have a smile on your face. I did. In the end, I really like The Lost Expedition, and am glad I played through it. It is a charming game. Not a perfect one, but an acceptably enjoyable one. I recommend the game to any adventure or platformer fan.

Pitfall: The Lost Expedition is as much give and take as you'll find in a modern platformer. For every good quality it features, there's an issue to be found. However, this is not to say that all enjoyment from the game is negated in any way--in fact, if you can find it within yourself to simply grin and bear some of the problems the game has, you'll likely find The Lost Expedition to be pretty enjoyable. Sure, it probably won't please any hardcore Pitfall! purists, but if you're just on the lookout for a solid platformer for a weekend rental, then Pitfall: The Lost Expedition is right up your alley.

‘They say when a giant demon jaguar is about to end your existence, your life flashes before your eyes …. Actually, nobody says that, but then few have ever seen a giant demon jaguar …’ Well, that circle is about to expand, thanks to Activision and Edge of Reality who bring the three-dimensional arcade-adventure title Pitfall: The Lost Expedition to the Xbox.

If you're on the lookout for a solid platformer for a weekend rental, then Pitfall: The Lost Expedition is right up your alley. In many ways, the original Pitfall! for the Atari 2600 can be held primarily responsible for inventing the modern platforming genre. Without that seminal game, we would have never experienced the trials and tribulations of Pitfall Harry, jumping over pits, climbing up and down ladders, and swinging from vine to vine across the dense jungles--or, at least as dense as the 2600 was capable of rendering.

However, for its reduced $20 price tag, Pitfall: The Lost Expedition is still worth checking out for any PC player on the hunt for a good platformer.

For what my opinion’s worth, Pitfall: The Lost Expedition is a solid platformer with a few faults. But it also fills a void on the PC, that gray area between Freddy Fish and Half-Life 2.

Pitfall Harry has been into the adventuring thing since the days of the Atari 2600, back before we even had graphics. In any sane universe, he'd be out of the bush-beating by now, perhaps running a safe, successful business enterprise somewhere -- Pitfall Harry Wireless Tycoon, or something along similar lines. But in fact, he's Indiana Jones-ing harder than ever for excitement, and while Activision's Pitfall: The Lost Expedition has a new look, mechanic, and sense of humor, it still manages an old-school sheen.

For a genre that gamers and retailers declare dead on an almost-daily basis, there's still a ton of platformers coming out on consoles. I need more than two hands to count all the ones last year, in fact -- from old standbys like Jak II and Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, to strong runners-up like Metal Arms and Whiplash, to never-heard-of-its like The Hobbit and The Haunted Mansion. There were such a vast number of hop-n-bops last year, actually, that they ended up cannibalizing each other's sales and only Jak 'n Ratchet sold in any large quantities. Looking at things that way, it's probably best for Pitfall: The Lost Expedition that it's not facing much competition in February -- with a platformer as decent but unremarkable as this one, there's no way Activision could have competed with the big boys of the field.

The camera is funky, so you'll need to constantly adjust it. Objectives are often unclear and even when they are clear, it's confusing how to accomplish them (okay, I have a torch, and I'm supposed to burn these crates - but how?) The dialogue can be hard to hear, but that might be considered a bonus considering how corny it is. Pitfall's maps and instructions are presented in a tattered, handwritten presentation that looks cool but can be hard to read. In the end, the Lost Expedition is a good-looking adventure but spotty gameplay prevents it from reclaiming the glory days of the franchise.

Déterrer un titre culte des années 80 aurait été une bonne idée si la réalisation avait suivi. Pitfall n'en reste pas moins un jeu de plate-forme correct qui pourra éventuellement amuser certains nostalgiques.

Call me grumpy, but I cringe when I see classic characters forced to pander to the fashions of the day. I didn't like Snoopy donning legwarmers in 1984 for It's Flashbeagle, Charlie Brown; I don't like James Bond showing his skill at extreme sports; and I don't like seeing Pitfall Harry, star of Activision's classic Atari VCS game Pitfall, turned into a stylishly coiffed hipster youth with the snarky libido of Leisure Suit Larry and a penchant for hip-hop dancing.
