This game features a multiple-choice narrative effected by player actions. Does the Interactive Movie genre apply, or have I mis-read the genre description?

Interactive Movie only applies to games like Dragon's Lair which there is actually a movie running and the player only affects the next movie branch (e.g. by choosing the next destination or winning/failing a quick time event). If there is any more interaction, e.g. manually moving a player character like in Fahrenheit, it is not an interactive movie anymore. Basically a visual novel with video instead of text.
