Air Combat

Flight sims are usually PC clunkers disguised as video games, but not Air Combat! The feeling as you cruise over the amazing texture-mapped landscape is unbelievable. It's a complete dogfight atmosphere, from the voices blaring in your ears to the enemy bogeys on your tail. Tons of jets, multiple missions and the incredible split-screen vs. mode - whoa! I wish AC had a PS-to-PS link option like Psygnosis games, otherwise this is the definitive flight game until Wing Arms for the Saturn.

The one area Air Combat falls short on is presentation. The flickering graphics, cheesy soundtrack and ugly colors just don't match up to 32-bit standards. In spite of it's disappointing graphics, Air Combat is a total blast and a game Playstation owners need to have.

Despite Air Combat's substantial flaws, patient arcade-shooter fans will gradually get caught up in the gripping gameplay. This disc's worth an exploratory test flight.

Air Combat falters only when it comes to its graphics. The flickery images and bland colors do nothing to showcase the PlayStation's graphics prowess. However, the gameplay more than makes up for the shoddy presentation. If you liked Warhawk, give Air Combat a look.

A terrorists group has infiltrated certain sections of the army and has forced a coup d'etat. The military high command has become all but helpless after the many brutal attacks. With little personnel and equipment left, they have recruited an international squadron of mercenaries to help them regain control of their country.

Still, Air Combat is a very solid air combat game. There are lots of planes to choose from, a wide variety of missions, and immersing, action-packed nonlinear game play. Even if you're not a big fan of this type of game, you should probably go ahead and give it a try. It is a lot of fun and highly addictive.
