Akuji the Heartless Action Figures Slash into Stores This Spring
MENLO PARK, Calif.January 21, 1999 --
Eidos Interactive announced today the ship date of the fearsome voodoo-themed action game, Akuji the Heartless, on the PlayStation. Players will guide the fierce voodoo priest Akuji through gruesome 3D worlds full of voodoo spells, ritual sacrifices and grisly denizens of the underworld. Akuji the Heartless will be available nationwide January 22, 1999 at a suggested retail price of $44.99.
"Shipping in January will allow us to capitalize on the overwhelming success of the PlayStation this holiday season," said Scott Steinberg, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Eidos Interactive. "The voodoo theme, unique combination of fast 3D action and puzzle solving gameplay, and strong retail and consumer marketing programs will help to ensure that Akuji the Heartless is a must have title."
Eidos Interactive will pave the way for the launch of Akuji the Heartless with a strong consumer marketing and retail push. Consumer and retail marketing initiatives include: an interactive demo given away at retail locations and in the March issue of The Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine; an aggressive print advertising campaign in key gaming magazines, DC and Wildstorm Comics through Spring 1999; extensive direct consumer focused mailings; retailer co-op advertising including full size standees and oversized boxes featuring Akuji and his razor sharp claws; a radio giveaway promotion in top media markets; online advertising banners and an online promotion with Animalhouse.com; and a strong public relations push promoting Richard Roundtree as the voice of Akuji.
Akuji will also slash his way into the action figure venue with the help of Precision Design Workshop, designers of the current line of action figures based on the horror movie favorite, The Puppet Master. The Akuji the Heartless line will feature highly detailed figures of the fierce voodoo priest Akuji, his bride Kesho, and the evil Baron Samedi. The Akuji the Heartless action figure line will be available Spring of 1999.
