Alone In The Dark 4: The New Nightmare is truly a fantastic game and shines like a diamond stone. With the limitations of the PlayStation, the developers have still managed to cram every last bit of detail into this one. Go out a buy it. Now!�

The pace is slower than that of Resident Evil, however, and the monsters are not as prevalent but that makes it all the scarier when a demon finally pops up. Ominous music and constant thunder keeps you edgy, but nothing is as creepy as the surroundings. The prerendered scenery would be stunningly beautiful if it wasn’t so darn creepy it’s some of the best scenery on the PlayStation. If you’re a Resident Evil fan with no monsters left to kill, don’t be lonesome get Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare.

En bref, n'est pas à l'origine d'un genre qui veut et ce nouvel opus renoue parfaitement avec la catégorie qui commençait cruellement à manquer de renouveau. C'est désormais chose faite avec cet Alone In The Dark : The New Nightmare qui offrira de nombreuses heures d'un jeu intense et passionnant.

Gra zajmuje dwie płyty CD, wypełnione po brzegi niepowtarzalnym klimatem, który od czasu Silent Hill rozpłynął się niczym mgła. Jest również troszkę inaczej niż w horrorach Capcomu, ale tak, czy inaczej, ze wszech miar polecam tą grę. Co ma więc uczynić gracz, który wszystkie zombiaki z Residenta dawno puścił z dymem? Bo nawet pomijając fakt, iż mamy prawdopodobnie do czynienia z ostatnią dobrą grą tego typu na wysłużonego PSXa - zagrać naprawdę warto.

Det är lite synd att spelutvecklare kanske frångår egna idéer för att istället förlita sig på det mer beprövade och bevisat kommersiellt gångbara. Vad gäller upplägg, kontroll och menyer är Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare i princip identiskt med Resident Evil. Och att till och med skaparna av Resident Evils föregångare har slutit sig in i ledet av efterapare kommer säkert att få tråkiga konsekvenser. Men samtidigt har man fört in en hel del nytt och lyckats att göra ett spel som kommer att uppskattas av alla Resident Evil-fans. Och kanske av några till.

Graphically, Ed and Aline's journey toward a trio of ancient tablets almost defies the PS-X (her playable path embarks separate from his). Prerendered backdrops go well beyond RE's in detail and texturing, especially when your flashlight lights them up. Also worthy of note are the water and mirror reflections you encounter. My only real complaint about the gameplay is that it doesn't include a quick turn. Barring that, I suggest you investigate what may be the last good bump in the PS-X's dying night.

Malgré quelques défauts, classique du genre (angles de caméras parfois gênants) ou plus spécifiques (configuration du pad loin d'être optimale), ce New Nightmare est un grand vent frais (voire glacial, vu le thème) dans l'univers du survival horror, et a toutes ses chances de ramener la série des Alone in the Dark au premiers rang de l'horreur vidéoludique, grâce à sa réalisation de qualité et ses deux aventures assez longues (une dizaine d'heures chacune). Tremblez, Redfield et Mason : Carnby est de retour !

It may not be completely perfect or have the best graphics ever, but this latest Alone in the Dark definitely reminded me of why I love this genre so much. The puzzles are well thought out and the voice acting is actually quite decent. If you're a fan of the Resident Evil series, then this game is a definite have. It's not terribly innovative, but it does do an amazing job of keeping you at the edge of your seat. And if that isn't a sign of a great "survival horror" game, then I don't know what is.

I've deliberately avoided spoiling puzzles and upsetting much the plot here, and I've managed to keep the various creatures that lurk in the shadows under wraps too, but hopefully you'll appreciate that - there's an excellent adventure game here, marred only by a few jagged polygons in places, and unless you're some sort of wussy cushion squirmer, you'll want to make it part of your collection.

Alone In The Dark: The New Nightmare is very good playable, that mean the game isn't the most difficult game around. There are no difficulty levels to choose from. As you play you will understand that the difficulty is "unbalanced". The controls are quite fine, but it's more comfortable to play the game with game pad instead regular keyboard and mouse. Alone In The Dark: The New Nightmare is definitely well done survival horror game, if you like "classic" survival horrors, buy it.

Die neue Fortsetzung von Alone In The Dark, mit dem Untertitel The New Nightmare, macht dem Horror alle Ehre. Mit einer sehr dichten Atmosphäre und interessanten Story überzeugt dieses Action-Adventure alle mal. Die geränderte Grafik ist ebenfalls sehr interessant, vor allem wenn eine der beiden zur Verfügung stehenden Hauptfiguren, mit der Taschenlampe herum fuchtelt. Um jedes Detail der Umgebung zu entdecken, ist dies schon nötig. Anspruchsvolle Rätsel unterstützen das Gameplay, welches allerdings einen kleinen Kritikpunkt vorweisen kann: Die Spielfigur lässt sich nur mit dem Steuerkreuz bewegen. Ansonsten ist die Steuerung und das Inventar-Menü recht einleuchtend. Während dem Spiel sind die Monster, welche sehr erschreckend in Szene gesetzt worden sind, zwar etwas lästig, aber man wird schon mit ihnen fertig. Alone In The Dark: The New Nightmare ist auf jeden Fall ein guter Kauf für die Liebhaber des Action-Adventure-Genres.

When the lights come back on, Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare is a satisfying horror game with many of the sinister elements that made the original so good. But its failure to do anything new that Resident Evil hasn't already done (other than a cool flashlight) leaves this zombie hungering for something more. Brains, anyone?

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare can be summed up best in one word, average. There is little to make the game stand out in a market filled with other mediocre titles. The meshing based lighting system is definitely the high point of the game, but eye candy does not a good game make.

While Capcom's Resident Evil is known as the series that brought the survival-horror genre to the mainstream, Alone in the Dark is the series that invented it. While there have been no less than three iterations of the game for the PC, to date, only one game out of the entire series has ever been seen on the PlayStation: 1996's Alone in the Dark: One Eyed Jack's Revenge. Now, close to six years later, the Alone in the Dark series graces the PlayStation once again, and it does so with some fairly decent results.

This game should have been in development longer and more polished (there are numerous graphical glitches and clipping that occurs). A good game, but it could've been great. As with all survival horror games, play this game in the dark, and only at night. It's vital that you do, and it accents the game.

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare is a pleasing prospect for horror fans, and if you can get used to the fact that it isn't a Resident Evil game then you should enjoy it. This is one definitely not designed for children, so parents should avoid this game if they intend to share their PS One with the kids. Those gamers who intensely dislike this genre should avoid the game like the plague, as they will find nothing different from what has been done countless times before in previous survival horror titles. We can recommend Alone in the Dark to horror fans, but anyone else may need to try before they buy.

They got the light-play right, (an exceptional achievement, which probably helped the game's grade) the story’s premise, and the name, but unfortunately not much else. There are some tense moments playing as Aline, as she repeatedly encounters the first boss in her journey, that won't die(there are only two 'bosses' per character). But, in the end, the wonderfully creative and fear-inducing series that is Alone in the Dark has degraded to a Resident Evil clone that’s harder to save, not as fun to look at, and a generally worse time all around. Lovecraft fans: you can't help but feel that a much better game, with the right effort, was lurking at the threshold.
