The Next Level
This game is non stop fun! There are a few frustrating parts, but what game doesn't have those? The game also has a very in-depth tutorial that helps you out throughout the game as new skills are required or new gadgets are obtained. One important feature to keep in mind - since you start the game with only the stun club, net and one gadget item after several levels, you must revisit levels to capture ALL the monkeys in each. Also, there are coins hidden in the levels that open up mini-games that are really fun! I won't ruin the surprise. This game is like nothing else out there, and you must get it. Just when you thought the PlayStation was dead thanks to all this Dreamcast talk (Editor's Note: Hey...the Dreamcast talk is cool man!), this top-notch original game proves otherwise.

Innovative control and traditional platform aspects merge in the PlayStation's best platformer ever.

Super Play

PSX Extreme
Ape Escape in my opinion is one of the most original title in it's genre on any console. Standing up there with such titles as Parrapa the Rapper, and Bust a Groove.

In conclusion, Ape Escape is a great platformer and it rivals any one of Rare’s collection based platformers on the Nintendo 64. Also as one of Sony’s greatest hits games, you can pick this up for about $20. What are you waiting for? The monkeys need to be stopped!

All Game Guide
Ape Escape is one of the most enjoyable 3D platform games to swing onto the PlayStation in quite some time. It's also one of the most innovative.

With that said, Everything else about Ape Escape is fun to the last drop. This isn't a game you will beat in an hour, either; there's enough stuff here to keep you thoroughly entertained for a while.

GameSpot
Ape Escape is one of the PlayStation's finest development efforts, one that shouldn't be overlooked because of its silly storyline and title.

If you are looking for an enjoyable platform game, this should fit the bill just fine. There are hours of fun to be had by gamers of all ages. Getting used to the controls can be a bit challenging at first, but you will soon be rowing the raft and netting monkeys with ease. Once again, Sony has hit on a winner that will entertain for quite some time.

All in all a very well thought out and fun game. The little extras are a fun way to keep you playing and enjoying th game. Here's just a little tip though: Don't expect to much from the best ending.

Game Revolution
Ape Escape dances along the thin line, but thankfully doesn't fall into the trap of becoming a cheap gimmicky game. Instead, it is a solid 3-D environment action game that is different enough to raise it above the standard. While not without its flaws, the innovative control is very cool. The right stick control feels truly intuitive and you'll wonder why you haven't used it more often. Ape Escape is as fun as a barrel full of... well.. monkeys.

Game Informer Magazine
This game makes more creative use of the two analog sticks than most games do today. Then there are the monkeys, which provide a wealth of absurd comedy - though they may not have been fully mined in this installment. Nonetheless, Ape Escape is worth looking at again if for no other reason than nostalgia.

GameBump/Gaming Horizon
There's plenty of plat formers out there like Jersey Devil , Croc, and Crash Bandicoot. Why should I buy Ape Escape? Because it's an excellent game all around. It's a must rent for all, and a buyer for most. Besides, in what other game can you beat your monkey without getting in trouble.

Game Critics
Ape Escape was supposed to be a breath of fresh air during the down side of the PlayStation life cycle but Sony nearly ruins it. Ape Escape borrows too heavily from games on other systems and doesn't deliver enough to help it stand out beyond the Mario clones flooding the market. It takes a while for Ape Escape's own charm to shine through but when it does, Ape Escape proves to be a nice start for a franchise.

Ape Escape est un petit jeu de plate formes qui ravira les passionnés mais qui, à mon avis, rate sa cible en étant trop difficile à jouer et en se bornant à ne jouer qu'en analogique. Dommage pour Sony.
