Arc the Lad has some of the best visuals I have ever seen in an RPG. In fact, Arc is the RPG equivalent of Astal. Astal was beautiful, but short, and Arc is beautiful, but linear. Extremely linear. Playing this game in Japanese was no problem. Other than this flaw, which is minor in the scope of this gorgeous game, Arc is pure heaven. The fights embody some of the best effects ever seen, and the music is well, Final Fantasy like, with Playstation PCM audio. When this game comes home, (if it comes home) jump upon it.

Because of its relative tactical simplicity, Arc The Lad is a good strategy RPG for those who are strategy novices or are not big fans of the genre. Even for hardcore strategy fans, Arc The Lad's combination of beautiful graphics, a brilliant soundtrack, and a solid storyline make it a worthwhile purchase. In spite of its short length, I would recommend this one to all interested parties.

If you are not the type of person who likes to replay games at all, you still will find this game fun and easy to play. It is also a great game for gamers who don't have a lot of free time on their hands, and don't want to get involved in a hundred or so hour long RPG. This game may be somewhat hard to find now, so your best bet may be to look on E-Bay or some place similar for the Arc the Lad Collection, which contains Arc the Lad 1, 2, 3, and the Arc the Lad Monster Arena, as well as a few other Arc the Lad collectibles. I purchased said set for $49.99 I believe, which I consider a good deal since it translates to about $12.50 per game. This game is good for anyone, so if you have any interest at all in video games, you might as well check it out.

Rumour has it that Arc the Lad 1 was really only a Prologue to the real rpg story in Arc the Lad 2. If that's the case then it would've been better off to actually include the entire short Arc the Lad 1 storyline as part of the Arc the Lad 2 story then to sell Arc the Lad 1 as a stand alone game. The gamemakers had the right idea with making a mini-series that continues directly off the previous game. I give them credit for doing something that's never been done before and I like the idea. Problem is that if you're going to make a Chapter 1 introduction then you should at least take the effort and introduce us to the characters, settings and story plotline properly. I feel sorry for the suckers in Japan who had to pay full price for this 10-15 hours rpg game when it first came out.
