Ball Breakers may not be genre-busting, and at times it may be way too damn hard for its own good, but in the end, it’s a decidedly entertaining little title that will supply you with quite a few hours of cheap enjoyment. And for right at $10, you’d be a damn fool not to pick this game up -- it’s better than some $50 epics I’ve played, and you’ll probably be tossing it into your PlayStation over and over when you need a quick fix. Who said a game has to be spectacular? Sometimes, just damn fun is all it takes.
Original, colourful… in-your-face!! This game is compelling and will most definitely have you wanting more. I have to admit, my first impression was a little apprehensive. I thought the game was a little strange. But, after sitting down for a few hours and playing it, I realised first impressions aren’t always the right ones! If you’re after something a little bit different, this could be exactly what you’re looking for. Definitely worth the money!
This is the very first game in the Playstations new Ultra-Cheap range that we have been truly impressed with. Not only does it provide amazing value for money, but it plays better than many full price games out there. Lets hope that this is the first of many quality budget titles to be released, as it could be games like these that keep this console going for many years after its big brothers launch this winter.
Ball Breakers is a new and fun approach to a sports/action game. The fast-paced action and variety of arenas make it perfect for killing some time even if it doesn't deliver the most rewarding gaming experience. The bargain bin $10 price tag makes it a pretty easy buy, too. If nothing else, it's worth having in your collection just so you can laugh at the name every time you read it.
Definitely the best in the $9.99 line up so far; Ball Breakers is a fun little action title that's inexpensive (making it an easy impulsive purchase), and incredibly addictive at the same time, which are two qualities that do not go hand-in-hand very often.
Overall, Ball Breakers is a pleasant surprise. It's not amazing by any stretch, but there are enough pluses to keep it from sinking into value-priced software hell. Deep down I hope that this game sells well, not because it's amazing, but because for ten dollars, you're not going to find a better new game. And for a first-time effort, developers Lost Toys have got something genuinely fun on their hands. Let's hope their sophomore effort can muster an even better experience.
With that said, some of the events, most notably the Tag rounds are fantastic, and you can’t help thinking the developers would have come up with a more interesting title had they concentrated on this and dropped the combat element completely. It’s a game that’s well worth investigating because of its refreshingly unique and original gameplay and groundbreaking graphical style, but unfortunately isn’t quite gripping enough to be deemed an essential purchase.
If you look past a painfully weak back story and the painfully simple graphics, you'll find there is an enjoyable game to be played in Ball Breakers.
The sad part about a game like this is that it seems unfinished, like it was released too early in the PlayStation’s now illustrious history to even have a chance at surviving. If the maps were improved and the robots' moves were a little more unique, Ball Breakers might have been comparably to something as successful as Powerstone. Being the loser without a lot of friends, yeah, maybe I might get a little more fun out of bot beating a human opponent in the multiplayer option, but not by much.
