I have to admit, I like this game – it’s damn good fun with hours of entertainment. Only thing is; Blade can be a major pain in the arse at times. Some of the boss characters I’ve come up against have been the biggest, cheating bunch of butt-heads I’ve ever seen. I know, I know, I hear you say that bosses are supposed to be hard, but some of them just take the p*ss. Talk about cheat! Lets say for example, In this one level, I was standing behind I massive statue while this guy was firing off loads of grenades. There was absolutely no way I was in his line of site, but the git still managed to shoot me! Damn it, I reckon he shot me right through the statue. : / This guy took me ages to beat. And to say the least, by the end of the fifth attempt I was starting to get so unbelievably P****d off, it just wasn’t funny. I was just tempted to scream and throw the damn game out of the window.

Blade in the end disappoints with frustratingly cheap gameplay that offers little fun. The game has the right intentions but cannot overcome all the minuscule problems that ruin the experience.

Blade isn't the worst game I've ever played (by a long shot), but there are many, many other third-person action titles I'd rather play before this. The controls suck, the graphics are weak, and the game itself is repetitive. The voice-acting and atmosphere don't quite pull Blade out of the singing abyss that it's fallen into. If you're a die-hard fan of the movie or comic book, you may want to pick it up, but the rest of us can find better things to spend our money on.

These issues aside, fans of the movie can still have some fun with this title -- in fact, you could argue that the plot makes for a better videogame than movie. As long as you're not expecting a technical masterpiece, you'll be able to tolerate this world of the undead.

With Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, X-Men, Spider-Man and Tenchu 2 being released earlier this year, Blade is one helluva game to kill Activision's incredible videogame streak. Not only is the videogame release of Blade late as ever, but the game couldn't even be saved if it was released simultaneously with the movie, because of its messed up frame rate, and overall boring gameplay experience, Blade is a title that is only worth a rental, and hardcore Marvel or Blade fans may really want to think twice before spending $40 on the game. Do me a favor, if you are looking for an action experience check out Syphon Filter 1 and 2, Metal Gear Solid, or Spider-Man, you will not regret it.

Maybe using the Quake 2 game engine was a little over ambitious. It worked well with a first person shooter but fails miserably when the perspective is switched to the third person mode. If you can contain your anger and soothe your frustrations then there is a half-decent game inside. Just don’t say that I didn’t warn you!

It feels like there's the potential for a good game buried somewhere in Blade, but it would take some serious surgery to dig it out. Guess Activision is fallible after all.

Blade was obviously not a rushed title. The game is two or three years behind the movie and about a year ahead of the sequel. So what happened? Did they not play the game themselves (the developers)? Did they believe the PlayStation was dead so stopped trying? I don’t know, but I do know that if the development team had actually used the Resident Evil engine and pasted a mod on the sound and graphics, it would have created a better final product. That might not be true; Blade was built on the same engine as Quake II for the PlayStation, which is a good engine. I am simply trying to find a reason for this game to be so bad. Activision is a very respectable game company and I just don’t want to believe they released this game without an excuse for its muckiness. Is this the state of gaming today? Will we as gamers buy any piece of junk that hits the EB shelves? I think not, so how do these game companies stay in business?

Activision has enjoyed a pretty strong track record when it comes to translating comic books and movies into game form, but it's failed on both accounts here. Blade lacks the energy of the film, the feel of the comic, and the standards set by other games in its genre. Fans of third-person shooters are much better off looking up the original Syphon Filter or even one of n-Space's two Duke Nukem games.

Unfortunately, Blade just falls short in too many areas. Blade seems to be on the right track to becoming a solid action game, but got derailed sometime during execution. Even if you're hard-up for an action game, I can't recommend this title.

Stygga barn får Blade i julklapp.

Observant GI fans may have noticed some subtle changes in our coverage of Blade. Our first look at the game was a six-page feature. The next time around, it had shrunk to a half-page preview. Now it’s sunk to a lowly one-third page review. Notice a pattern? I think it’s time to admit that we were suckered by the advance hype on this game. Mistakes were made. Fortunately, we make mistakes so you don’t have to – and you most definitely don’t have to buy this annoying, ugly piece of crap. Think of this as Blade’s return to its roots as one of Marvel’s worst franchises.

Blade is a kick-ass hero in the comics and movies, but take away the "kick" and what you're left with adequately describes this game.

The biggest problem by far is that the game just doesn't work. This is hard to explain, but for whatever reason Blade simply doesn't gel properly. There is a sort of intangible loathing that emanates from it. It may sound very weird but, if you play the game, you will understand. Had Blade been released when the movie was out, it probably would have done much better. Sadly, the movie is old, and so is this game's appearance. Looks like the armies of the dead have won this battle.

IGN
Brown 3D adventure at its most generic and slipshod. There might have been the potential for a good game here at some point, but it disappeared some while ago. The technical problems are considerable, the artistic execution is unimpressive, the gameplay is devoid of original or playable ideas. Rent Metal Gear one more time, or play through one of the Syphon Filters a second time, or do anything other than paying money for Blade.

Gaming Age
The cinematics in Blade are done quite nicely, and do a good job of creating a prequel to the movie storyline. But the actual game is such a mess that even hardcore action gamers will think twice about ridding the world of vampires.

Game Revolution
There is nothing here to justify Blade's development. Every aspect of this game, from graphics to gameplay, has been done before, only better. If you are a big fan of the movie, then by all means buy it. The movie I mean. You wouldn't like this game if you were The Daywalker himself.
