Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain

A thorough, solid, red-lipped, bloodsucking good time!

Blood Omen: The Legacy of Kain will provide many, many, many (I could keep going with the "many"s) hours of enjoyment. The game is huge, gameplay is reminiscent of the classic Legend of Zelda with the gore of Loaded, graphics are sharp and the controls are easy and responsive. On the downside, you need to add an extra many to the number of hours this game will take from you simply because of load times. Due to the extensive worlds and detailed backgrounds, the game suffers from overload. This slows down the action considerably and makes tasks, such as checking your inventory, a real pain. If you are a fan of action/role playing/lots o' blood games, this is a don't-miss title for you. If you like fast-paced, Doom-style action, this may be a bit too slow. All in all, Legacy of Kain is a fun game that will satisfy the thirst for blood.

While certainly showing signs of its age graphically, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain is still a game worth checking out. As a dark and often graphic (it didn’t get that mature rating for nothing, you know) action RPG, it still delivers the goods. The story is engrossing, the gameplay mechanics solid, and the voice acting entertaining. While it probably won’t yield the 80 hours of gameplay the back cover promises, it will offer up 30 or so hours of epic adventure. If you liked Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, then Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain is certainly worth a look.

With slick graphics, plenty of depth, an intriguing plot, and perhaps even a deeper moral question or two, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain is one of the few games for which I would actually wait through the horrible loading times. It is not for the squeamish, or the easily offended Christian-type, but if you have a cruel streak (even hidden somewhere down deep) this game is a winner.

Hoppas dock att inga barn får se detta, för äckligare rollspel har sällan skådats. Nu vet jag att flera yngre förmågor kommer att hoppa av förtjusning över ett sådant utlåtande, men det är en allvarligt menad varning. För alla andra kan jag bara rekommendera detta spel, som är välgjort både i renderat animerade sekvenser, grafik, av skådespelare inlästa repliker, ljud och upplägg.

Blood Omen : Legacy of Kain est incontestablement un hit qu’il convient d’avoir dans sa ludothèque. Son scénario à rebondissements, sa bande-son torturée et son esprit des plus inédits, achèvent d’en faire un des jeux les plus marquants de la console. Malgré de lourds problèmes de gameplay, on ne se lassera pas d’évoluer dans cette très longue histoire qui enfantera quatre autres épisodes.

Capturing the spirit of Zelda and Beyond Oasis, Legacy of Kain is a great hack-and-slash role-playing game. With lots challenging and fun gameplay, sucking the blood out of hapless prisoners and townspeople is pure Playstation pleasure.

How do you repackage old games for a new audience? Legacy of Kain’s twist is to make its protagonist an anti-hero, a rapacious vampire who needs to sustain himself on the blood of innocents. Such desperately controversial elements have already won it an enthusiastic Stateside audience – where it benefits from a dearth of competition.
