This is a good game on the merits of the story line and the logical thought process needed to progress through many of the scenarios. It was let down by very sloppy camera angles and the not-so-hot graphics which often made finding crucial items very difficult. At times it can be quite juvenile and makes for a solitary gaming experience due to the lack of any real interaction with other characters, but to be fair, it did give a real sense of accomplishment when each phase was completed. While Chase the Express definitely won't set any new benchmarks in this genre, it is nonetheless a decent game that will keep you occupied for several days.
Overall, the game really isn’t that bad, but that doesn’t mean that it's good, either. Covert Ops: Nuclear Dawn is short (maybe 15 hours), surprisingly short for 2 discs. I remember finishing the first disc, wondering if I had missed some enormous side quest involving the rural Russian countryside. True, the game had multiple endings, so there is some replayability, I suppose. Had I been a huge fan of Siphon Filter, which I am not, I probably would have enjoyed the game a little more -- either that or really hated it. I didn’t find any unexpected plot twists, original style game play, superb graphics, or anything fresh or interesting. I just didn’t find the game all that fun, and isn’t that what games are supposed to be about?
Chase the Express offers a little something new to the genre, and is worth playing if you want to deal with humans in your survival games.
Nuclear Dawn is, basically, Resident Evil in Metal Gear's clothing - effectively deriving elements from the former while failing to deliver the depth of experience of the latter.
In this age where we have a plethora of gaming choices, we all compare one game to another. Covert Ops: Nuclear Dawn has ripped off several good ideas from games like Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid, but seems to have failed at the execution. This leaves a big, frustrating mess that is compelling enough to play, yet has you pulling your hair out and smashing controllers because it is just not user friendly. I would save my pennies and replay any of the other games that this one emulates.
There's not really that much more that needs to be said here that wasn't mentioned in the review above. Covert Ops: Nuclear Dawn was a completely unsatisfactory gaming experience from beginning to end. It basically took all of the problems with games like Resident Evil and left out the things that made RE great, such as the engrossing storyline and amazing atmosphere. There's just not that much that can be said about this game that's positive.
