Gran Turismo 2

GT2 comes on two CDs: One for ultra-realistic simulation, and one for pure arcade action. Both are jam-packed with unlockables. Like the first game, Garbage is featured on the soundtrack, but I was less thrilled to hear Rob Zombie's "Dragula", which seems to be in every video game (enough already!). If you're looking for realistic racing on the Playstation, this is your game.

In the end GT2 was a long wait, but that wait gave us an extra 300 cars to the original 300 cars, more tracks, Rally mode, and so much more that GT2 is by far one of the years best games and "the greatest racer in the history of videogames". This game is not worth a rental because it doesn't deserve one, what it deserves is a purchase without any hesitation. So go off scurry to your nearest retailer an buy GT2 if you know what's good for you.

If I had to say something about this game in one sentence it would be this. Buy this game now. It is hard to go wrong with this game. It has tremendous replay value, wonderful graphics, and is a unique experience. The Arcade mode will not take much of your time and is really a side game to the Simulation mode since you have to play through some of the Simulation mode to unlock most of the Arcade tracks. The Playstation may be aging but it sure is going out with a bang.

Gran Turismo 2 is a fantastic game and a no-brainer purchase for fans of the original as well as any videogame racing fans. The enormous number of tracks and cars on top of the realistic Gran Turismo gameplay gives this game some of the best replay value there is. Just remember to keep a stash of CDs on hand, unless you consider the Foo Fighters' "My Hero" to be good driving music, over and over again.

Men trots bristernakvarstår fortfarande det faktum att Gran Turismo 2 är ett otroligt bra racingspel. Tillsammans åstadkommer körkänslan, grafiken och det enorma urvalet av bilar en helhet som överträffar allt annat i genren, och för alla som inte direkt ogillade stilen i Gran Turismo borde Gran Turismo 2 vara ett självklart köp. Mer racing än så här får man helt enkelt inte för pengarna.

Gran Turismo 2 positioniert sich direkt hinter Gran Turismo 4 als (derzeit) bester Teil der Reihe. Abseits der Grafik ist das Gameplay eben kaum schlechter und es wird ebenso mit riesigem Umfang geprotzt. Wer also Gran Turismo 4 mochte und mehr will, sich auch nicht an schlechterer Grafik stört, sollte also unbedingt einen Blick riskieren, denn hier findet man haufenweise Autos und tolle Strecken die in den Sequels nicht mehr dabei waren.

Gran Turismo perpétue donc la tradition en offrant une suite des plus gigantesques tout en gardant l'aspect de l'original. Il ne plane plus aucun doute quant à la suprématie de la série dans le domaine des simulations de conduite et les concurrents n'ont plus qu'à s'aligner ou périr.

Perhaps the worst aspect of Gran Turismo 2, oddly enough, is the existence of Gran Turismo. Given the success of the original, the game's developers probably had no wish to fix anything that wasn't broken - and preferred to build on the successful formula by adding more cars, car makers, and features, such as the rally mode. Fans of the original and those looking for a pure driving simulation should flock to store shelves without delay, but for the rest, that add-on philosophy may not sit well.

Gran Turismo 2 is like a Holiday Inn—it gives you more, and more is better. It succeeds in making the original PlayStation mega hit, Gran Turismo look obsolete, when in fact the difference between the two is marginal. No drastic changes have been made to the game's basic structure, there's just more of everything: more cars, more tracks, more options, more involved gameplay, more sounds and more music. Gran Turismo 2 succeeds because it's the complete package—a more comprehensive and ultimately more satisfying racing simulation than its predecessor.

Gran Turismo 2 était très attendu étant donné la révolution engendrée par le premier volet. Si cette nouvelle mouture conserve tous les ingrédients de la (désormais) série, en y ajoutant les courses de rallye, les points faibles de GT n'ont hélas pas été effacés. Au contraire, on regrette maintenant la nette pixellisation du jeu au même titre que des lacunes au niveaux de l'interface. GT 2 reste tout de même un très bon titre pour tous les fans de courses automobiles grâce à un réalisme très pointu.
