Grind Session

Graphically, the game looks pretty nice. The frame rate is nice and smooth, and the animation is great, especially on the various vert tricks. The environments are absolutely huge, and each level is designed extremely well, with lots of great little secret areas. The game has great sound effects and an absolutely amazing soundtrack, featuring songs from artists such as Jurassic 5, GZA, Dr. Octagon, X-Ecutioners, NOFX, and Black Flag.

The verdict? Highly addictive. We at the office seem to be playing it every chance we get. The game has a load of levels, nice graphics and a killer soundtrack to keep the interest high for some time to come. I recommend it to anyone who likes skateboarding games, but if not try it anyways. It's a shred ripping pleaser.

Grind Session heeft alles wat Tony Hawk heeft en toch kan het dat spel niet doen vergeten. Sterker nog, ik ben bang dat er nog een vervolgje en een paar goede ideeën aan te pas moeten komen om definitief af te rekenen met de meester aller skategames. Tot die tijd speel ik Tony Hawk.

Shaba put great effort into Grind Session. After playing the hell out of the game I can safely say that Grind Session deserves to be right next to Tony Hawk. If a sequel is planned the only thing that should be changed is the speed, I felt as if GS didn't have enough speed and at times the tricks were tough to land otherwise this is a great title. Grind Session is worthy of a purchase especially for the THPS fans. This game deserves all the praise it can get! Kudos Shaba!

På det hela taget är Grind Session ett riktigt bra skateboardspel och det står utan svårigheter pall för konkurrensen från Tony Hawk's Pro Skateboarding. Grind Session har en minst lika skön känsla, det innehåller fler trick och den intressanta utmaningen som erbjuds tack vare tech-lines är det här spelet hittills ensamt om.

The developers at Shaba would have done themselves a big favor by trying harder to differentiate Grind Session from Tony Hawk, rather than to imitate it. And even if it was developed before Tony Hawk, Grind Session feels like an imitation.

Lastly, a feature that will no doubt make you play for hours on end is the ability to choose where you want to go on the course/level. Grind Session does not make you follow any order -- in fact, chaos is the intention. Obviously, to get the maximum number of points you're going to want to travel around as much of the course as you can, but if you don't want to, you don't have to. Whether you're in the mood for an all-out stunt show or a straightforward skating experience, Grind Session is a game that will last for countless hours of fun.

As well as a respectable multi player mode, Grind Session provides all that any skating fan would want from a game. Unfortunately Tony Hawk's Skateboarding has already provided all this, and the developers haven't really added much more to expand on that idea. Budding vandals can also smash windows and knock over barrels, so the younger tykes are also catered for to a certain extent. The main problem Sony are likely to face is when Tony Hawk 2 is released, this game may be shrouded in obscurity before gamers have realised it's full potential. Grind Session is a great game, but not necessary if you already own Tony Hawk's Skateboarding.

Grind Session simply has a ton of gameplay features. You can participate in a Tournament to open new levels, practice moves in Free Skate, test your skills in Endurance mode, or compete with up to 16 (!) friends in 5 different turn-based multiplayer games.
