MediEvil

This game really took me by surprise. To tell you the truth, while I was playing Medievil I forgot all about Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. This is Sony's most impressive non-sports game to date.

Es una de las joyas de la consola gris de playstation, y de momento tiene dos secuelas: una en la misma plataforma y otra en la PSP. Desprende originalidad y buen humor en todos los apartados, especialmente en los personajes (todos tienen algo cómico que decir), manteniendo un alto nivel en cada apartado sin que decaiga el interés: gráficos muy bien desarrollados con extensos niveles dotados de detalles y habitados por personajes y enemigos que a pesar de ser algo inferiores no dejan de tener buen diseño; jugabilidad intuitiva y fácil de manejar, con el único inconveniente de una cámara que a veces da problemas; música magistral acompañada por una amplia gama de efectos de sonido y un doblaje excelente;y finalmente una notable duración para varias horas.

The difficulty is fair, the humor is good, and the game becomes more entertaining as you progress. MediEvil's graphics are particularly interesting, especially in later levels where you explore a asylum and a pirate ship. Stick with MediEvil through its tedious early levels and you will be rewarded.

In the end, what we have here is one of the cleverest platform games ever made. Though not as graphically amazing as the N64's Banjo-Kazooie, Medievil is able to capitalize on the ability to use both music, voice, and FMV that Banjo-Kazooie had to do without. Released just in time for Halloween, this game is perfect for the Goth lover deep down inside all of us (just as long as you don't dress in all black and listen to the Violent Femmes. Why can't I get, just one...oh, never mind. - Ed.). This game is more than just a Halloween treat, though, and should be a top seller throughout the holiday season, and a classic after that.

Au final, aucun reproche à faire à MEDIEVIL. C'est un très très bon jeu. Sauf si vous êtes allergique à ce type d'humour ou aux joyeusetés d'Halloween, vous deviendrez rapidement accro car la réalisation est remarquable et le gameplay exemplaire.

MediEvil may not be as graphically appealing or as accurate in camera controls as a Spyro the Dragon, but to keep that analogy going, it provides the level of diversity, challenge, and fun that that title may have somewhat lacked. All in all, it's a welcome surprise.

Fans of this kind of game will definitely want to give it a play. Anyone expecting an innovative, next-generation experience will be left out in the cold.

It has held up better than a lot of PSone titles and still looks unique, but the animation is stiff and the character models are amazingly undetailed. When it was originally released, MediEvil was a charmingly different action title. Today it's just another example of how far gaming has come.
