Mega Man Legends 2

The bottom line is this: Mega Man Legends 2, like the first, is a cute and charming game with tons of personality to spare. Fans of the original, as well as those of Tron Bonne, should be perfectly happy here, especially considering the expanded locations and numerous tweaks in gameplay. Now the rest of you out there who are under the impression that there is something silly about cartoons and/or are having difficulty letting go of the notion that all 3D games should play like Tomb Raider& you should do yourselves a big favor by picking up this game and finding out what the rest of us know: that Mega Man Legends 2 is about the closest thing you ll get to an old-school adventure/RPG here in the twilight months of the PSX.

As the Legends series is further refined, it becomes obvious that the series going 3D was not merely a gimmick. Mega Man Legends 2 fixes a lot of the flaws in the original and is a substantial improvement on the Legends formula. Capcom has turned what began as a mere spin-off into a worthy stand-alone franchise.

Mega Man has held a spot in my heart since the days of the NES, and I thoroughly enjoyed playing the first Legends. Capcom, not a company known for taking chances with its successful franchises, wisely opted to play it safe. Mega Man Legends 2 is a sequel in the sense that Lethal Weapon movies are sequels – it knows what its audience wants, and gives them exactly that. No innovation, no curveballs, no bull. I suppose you could fault them for being unimaginative, but I’ll gladly take seconds.

Mega Man Legends 2 retails for £19.99, and is being released at the same time as Mega Man X5. X5 was a pretty drab, boring two-dimensional affair that failed to do anything new to the Mega Man formula. If you would rather see our little hero in a new light, check out Legends 2. It plays pretty well on its own even if you missed the first game, and at £19.99 you can't really argue with it. There's plenty of game time here, much more so than some more expensive titles I've played recently, and it might be worth getting your teeth stuck into this spin-off series early as a fan, because its popularity is bound to lead to many more games in the same vein. Honestly though, I look forward to them. Top game.

With the exception of Tron Bonne and the Servbots, I couldn’t give a rip what the Mega Man universe of characters do in their personal time. Moreso than the first, Mega Man Legends 2 tortures me by showing me cutscene after cutscene of characters talking, making me play out shopping trips, then following that up with more talking. When the action finally does go down, though, it’s pretty sweet, with the gameplay formula used in the original taking some creative twists. Mega Man loyalists and those that like a cute story explaining every little thing they’re doing will go ga-ga for this. Everyone else will probably find Legends 2 to be a nice diversion that’s best played between cooler games.

While Megaman Legends 2 doesn't do anything wrong, it still doesn't change much from the previous title. But on it's own merits, it's still a good game. I'm just wondering what Megaman games are left...they haven't made a kart racer yet, have they?

Mega Man Legends 2 is a strong title that trumps its predecessor in almost every way, and shows that Capcom is certainly learning from its mistakes in the genre. If they continue to pump out Legends game with the same veracity that they've done with the side-scrolling Mega Man adventures, then fans of the action-RPG have a number of games to look forward to in the future.

Megaman Legends 2 s'éloigne du concept originel de la série pour donner lieu à un titre d'action/aventure sympathique mais sans grande ambition. Le jeu ne souffre d'aucun défaut majeur mais l'action est parfois répétitive. Un titre qui satisfera davantage le jeune public que les fans de la série, même si la non traduction du jeu pourra légitimement les rebuter.

Mega Man Legends 2 kan vara ett alternativ för den som är ute efter ett lättsamt äventyr med seriekänsla. Men någon riktig action är det knappast fråga om.
