There are a few problems, like the dull sequences before and after a fight. Plus, the stadiums look empty most of the time, but these are minor details. If you want a game that puts you in the sweaty world of prize fighting, Codemasters' Mike Tyson Boxing is just the ticket. The only things missing from this game are Don King's hair and Evander Holyfield's ear...

As a multiplayer game there was simply no fun in running around in circles thrashing out wildly at each other. Anyway, the outcome always seemed to be a draw. What it lacked was a stamina bar to regulate throwing an unlimited amount of punches. As a single player game I was surprised how in-depth the World mode turned out to be and alone saves the game from being written off completely. As they say in the game saved by the bell.

With the Ready to Rumble and Knockout Kings series on the scene, competition has never been so hot in the console boxing world. The Naseem license is one that puts you in a 'can't lose' situation you would think, but the reality is that Prince Naseem Boxing is a wasted opportunity and is nothing more than an average slug-out that never really gets past the first round.

Granted, The Great White Hype was just a movie. But who could forget the intros by Method Man, the flash and dazzle, the ring girls, and the fan frenzy which ensued? Reality's much less flashy, as depicted by Mike Tyson's Boxing. Yet in the name of all that's holy, titles need SOME personality. Look at Ready 2 Rumble, which takes a big fat tinkle on this disc, which is arguably the most comatose fighter ever invented. Word to the wise; ixnay the ear biter's latest.

Adrenaline Vault, The (AVault)
Mike Tyson Boxing attempts to combine the genre’s simulation and arcade-like elements into one game, and although the groundwork is there, the end result is terribly disappointing. The product feels rushed and definitely needed a few more months in development to iron out the collision detection problems and to improve the extremely ineffective AI. Additionally, the gameplay is missing several standard options. Do I want to fight Mike Tyson? Sure, but perhaps once he gets a title that’s received both the polish and substance to back up his legendary name.
