MTV Music Generator is another sleeper, but unlike a regular sleeper this game shines in almost every department. Although it may lack some fancy graphics, the game makes up for everything due to its marvelous gameplay, variety, and sound. MTV Music Generator is a must have, don't be without.
Skip the Music Jam and the Video Creation parts of MTV Music Generator, they're useless. The real core of this game is an amazing music making program. The video library is massive, and the utilitarian feel and ease of composition is nearly flawless. For the most part the sound effects and beats are great to use and easy to paste into the music score, or to alter. I got a big gas out of sampling music from my favorite albums, and I also had a lot of fun simply listening to different song variations. If Codemasters doesn't send me another copy of this game in the next week, I'm going to go buy it. I highly recommend it.
Game industry News (GiN)
With video-game shelves stocked with worthless sequels, badly-used famous licenses and poorly conceived games to begin with, MTV Music Generator is a refreshing addition to just about any gamer's library. The game rates a final 4 GiN Gems, and wit dat 'DJ Grandmaster Sexay' says: Peace, out.
Overall, this is a great game. Don't be frightened by the fact that it has "MTV" in its title. There are endless hours of songs to create. One suggestion I make is to buy a multi memory card. I have a 32 in 1 memory card. The songs can take up to all 15 blocks, so you might run out of space with a card.
For its price, MTV: Music Generator is worth it. It's sort of like the run on Casio keyboards in the early '80s - every house seemed to have one, and most owners didn't have a clue what to do with them. You pounded out basic songs and threw in some drumbeats. This program is more advanced than that and quite a bit more fun. If you're a serious musician and tool around on your PC, you're probably going to be frustrated or bored, as the RAM is obviously limited and the library is nothing you haven't seen or used before. And frankly, there are better libraries elsewhere. But for PlayStation owners who just want a fun, addictive music-making tool, you'll likely be pretty amused, if not downright mesmerized. At least long enough to justify the cost.
