Unfortunately I think we will have to wait for the 1998 version of this game before we see the definitive American Football Simulation. Don't get me wrong this is a very playable game, its just that we were all hoping for a little bit more.

In a genre full of wannabe's, NFL Quarterback Club '97 could have been a step above the rest. Sadly however, lack of attention to gameplay and a rush job make for, at best, mediocre gameplay. And that's the bottom line.

Acclaim went back to the drawing board after last year's version of QB Club. They motion-captured actual NFL Quarterbacks and worked on the gameplay. The graphics are vastly improved, although the artificial intelligence is still too easy to beat and beat big. The game is more fun to play as a two-player game. But the true test of any sports simulating is how much fun the game is to play when you play against the computer.

While this game has some admirable qualities, in the end it falls short of the high standards set by Madden '97. Unless you harbor a deep hatred for John Madden and his know-it-all wisecracks, leave NFL Quarterback Club 97 on the shelves.

If the game wasn't so slow and the players weren't so pixilated, this game would be awesome. My advice? Wait for Quarterback Club '98.
