Abe's Oddysee represents one of the first successful meetings of Hollywood and Silicon Valley. It's basically a collection of puzzles combined flawlessly to form a cohesive and interesting story line. Abe also manages to remain challenging while never becoming irritating. Words cannot express how important this is. Oddworld Inhabitants is here to stay, and considering Abe's is only the first of a five game series, they've got a loyal customer in me for quite a while. Do not miss Abe's Oddysee.
Abe’s Oddysee is easily the best platform game on the PlayStation, with such devious puzzles, humorous characters and beautifully drawn, enchanting worlds that being 2-D just doesn’t matter. Pack your bags – you’re going to Oddworld!
The game is by no means an easy one to get through. There are hidden levels, plenty of puzzles as well as other challenges and a good selection of weird looking, mean spirited creatures to outsmart. The game is just designed and presented so damn well, that it hooks you in and keeps you coming back for more. It's one of those rare games that require players to think before they react. I can't wait to see the next game in this series…its really that good!
Abe's really is the ideal platformer, balancing its action and puzzle elements perfectly to make the game intelligent, engaging, and, best yet, fun. With about 25 to 30 hours of gameplay, there's a lot of meat for you to chew on, whatever kind it may end up being.
I thought Oddworld was a very difficult game that was frustrating almost as much as it was fun. I did enjoying finding new areas once I solved the puzzles that kept me from advancing, and I could not wait to see the beautiful scenes between levels. If you're ready for a challenge, check out Oddworld. If you're not ready for games that really require a lot of patience, you might need to look elsewhere.
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee is not a fast-paced, action-packed game. It's a thinking man's title that rewards patience more than twitching. It won't appeal to everybody, and may make a good rental candidate. However, if you've found most platformers too childish or repetitious, Oddworld may be one for you.
The Video Game Critic
Abe's Oddysee is a satisfying adventure, but only if you have the patience. Many areas need to be tackled in a strategic, deliberate manner, with little room for error. You will die a lot in this game, and the trial-and-error nature of it all can border on tedious. You can save your progress from the pause menu. OddWorld is not for everybody, but gamers looking for a more cerebral challenge will be hooked.
