Omega Boost

Omega Boost doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it is, a great looking shooter with simple, challenging gameplay. The story is pretty thin, but the folks at Polyphony decided to add a weird twist to make it stand out a bit.

If you’re looking for fast paced action that doesn’t stop then Omega Boost has what you need. The game works for me as a great action game -- the special effects are over the top, the levels are seemingly boundless, and the bosses are huge and imposing. But the game misses the mark on some of the little things. The terrain is slightly monotonous and while the level bosses are cool, there is little buildup leading to them. For those looking for a mindless action fix, Omega Boost will fit the bill and it does have enough secrets to unlock to keep you playing. I like the game -- it’s fun and worth taking out for a spin, but it just misses the mark when it comes to the great shooters.

Grafikerna har inte lyckats att göra det speciellt stilrent och att delar av utvecklingsteamet tidigare har varit med och skapat Panzer Dragoon till Saturn märks inte mycket. Omega Boost saknar stil, variation och framför allt själ. Och det är tre goda skäl till att se sig om efter ett annat shoot 'em up.

Ik ben bang dat Omega Boost een shooter is waar weinig gamers op zitten te wachten. De aktie is puur maar verveelt binnen twintig minuten. Geloof je me niet? Huur hem dan eerst voordat je al je zakgeld aan deze game besteed.

With more levels and design variety, Omega Boost could've outclassed every other 3D shooter on the market. With so little of either, however, Omega Boost is only a decent game at best.

If you've got that shooter itch, you might want to pass on Omega Boost. Try Einhander or R-Type 3D before you try Omega Boost. Or, if you're willing to go nostalgia tripping, get Panzer Dragoon Zwei for the Sega Saturn (that is, if you can find it). It does just about everything Omega Boost does, but much, much better.
