Parasite Eve

It looks like I have a new favorite game for the time being. I really enjoyed this one. It was nice to play a RPG-type game that was set in a real-world environment instead of some faraway mystical land. This review does not even scratch the surface of everything that makes up this game. I don't want to ruin any of the storyline for you, so be prepared for plenty of plot twists and turns and lots of characters being introduced. There was a little too much text at times and it slowed the game a little, but not enough to really turn me off. I guess it is a good thing that the review is coming to a close because thanks to Parasite Eve, I have a stack of games on my desk that I have not even opened.

Bastante superior a su segunda parte, Parasite Eve es un título recomendado tanto para los seguidores de los survival horror como para los amantes de los RPG, pues ofrece lo mejor de ambos géneros, y ambos muy bien dosificados. Tanto por su calidad, ambientación, personajes, argumento y jugabilidad, Parasite Eve es una adquisición obligada... aunque para ello haya que tirar de las tiendas de importación, que normalmente no venden este juego precisamente barato (y eso que tiene ya más de 10 años). Lo dicho, un título totalmente recomendable que no debe faltar en la videoteca de nadie, ya que es divertido como pocos.

If given the choice between RE2 and FFVII I would take Final Fantasy every time. PE is a good compromise between the two, with RPG elements to keep people like me happy and action and suspense elements to keep the RE2 fans happy. Personally the RPG elements are too small in number and depth to have kept me interested for long, while the level advancement, weapon, armour and combat systems are interesting they lacked long term appeal. As an RPG there are very few characters in PE, however the lack of characters is more of a feature than a bug since it gives you a closer tie to the few main characters and more of a role in guiding their destiny. As usual, your mileage may vary, if you like any of the RE games or FFVII you will probably get a lot out of PE. I would probably recommend a rental.

The biggest problem most die-hard gamers will have with Parasite Eve is the game’s length. With only six days in the game, you may find that Eve is a shorter ride than most Square Soft games. And although there is an extra level after you complete the game (which almost requires an entire playthrough of the previous levels), you always seem to want more. Parasite Eve will leave you thrilled, chilled, and a little hungry, but it’s well worth the price of admission.

Parasite Eve can be a little slow at times, and it's one of the harder Playstation games I can think of. Along with the linearity of the game, these features may turn a lot of gamers away from Parasite Eve before it's been given a fair chance. The game is very original and has opened up a door for new styles of RPG's to emerge. With groundbreaking graphics and a great style of gameplay, Parasite Eve has become a classic that no RPG fan should be without. Besides, you can probably find it for $10 by now, so what do you have to lose?

Gra „Kwadratowych" nie zawodzi także w kwestii grywalności. Opisany pokrótce przeze mnie system walki, duża liczba broni i przeciwników, bardzo fajni bossowie, typowe dla Square zwroty fabuły oraz ciekawe lokacje nie pozwalają się nudzić. Poza tym długi czas rozgrywki jak na survival horror czyli około 15 godzin ucieszy wielbicieli nieco dłuższych eskapad. Ale to nie wszystko co oferuje PE. Po jednokrotnym zakończeniu gry odblokujemy nową opcję, która pozwoli zagrać jeszcze raz jednak ze znacznie podniesionym poziomem trudności ale i z lepszymi akcesoriami do zdobycia. Ponadto na mapie pojawia się nowa lokacja - Chrystler Building.

With such an innovative battle system and quite the 'unheard-of' attitude in the plot, it's clearly one of Square's more original titles, straying from the usual 'party' system, clichTd 'lone villain taking over the world' plot, and even more, there's not even a 'hero,' we have a heroINE. I only wish the weapon and armor modifications was better executed, it seemed like such an excellent idea to me. While Parasite Eve 2 is now out here in the U.S., take the time if you have not already done so to play the original. In many ways it was a 'test' RPG; It incorporated new features and a new type of plot. The gamble paid off, and hopefully Parasite Eve 2 will brush up on some of the original's weaker qualities.

Despite the music hobbyist-like sound quality and the stereotyped New Yorker image (especially in Aya's partner Daniel who is animated, arms waving, rude, loud, impatient) and too many "Why did that happen? What are you doing? What do you mean?" type of conversations, Parasite Eve still delivers addictive game-play and lots of enjoyment.

Parasite Eve is grafisch en kwa gameplay alweer een beetje verouderd en daarom minder aantrekkelijk voor gamers die het onderste uit hun PlayStation willen halen. Maar als je geïnteresseerd bent in een degelijk adventure met een spannend plot dan word je op je wenken bediend.

So that's the parasite / host relationship in a nutshell. Parasite Eve is fun and engaging while it lasts - however, that's just not quite long enough. It has some good innovations, but is an imperfect mix of genres. While it is still a worthy game, both Final Fantasy VII and Resident Evil 2 are better. The marvelous visuals are spoiled by the complete lack of human voices. There will be a short quiz next week.

When all is said and done, the game may turn away a majority of the hardcore role-playing public with its striking departure from Square's "norm," although I'd still recommend giving it a look – it's a beautiful game. Those without a pre-conceived notions of it being Square's best game to date, or who simply want to see what else the company is capable of, will find it an adventure worth taking despite its flaws. Just don't expect another Final Fantasy VII.

Parasite Eve spans six days, over the course of which the human race's continued existence shall be called into question. A fateful night at the opera house triggers in one woman the power to cause all those around her to incinerate as the mitochondria in their bloodstream generate staggering quantities of energy, and in another woman an innate resistance to the deadly effects. You assume the role of that woman, the young New York cop Aya Brea, as she comes to realize that the fate of humanity will depend upon her actions. As Square Soft's biggest release since Final Fantasy VII, Parasite Eve offers high production values and an intriguing storyline in what Square Soft has dubbed "the cinematic RPG." Its gameplay blends action and horror with traditional RPG elements to create a game that is all too easily described as the marriage of Final Fantasy VII and Resident Evil.

All in all, Parasite Eve is a fairly solid title with some elements that only appeal to a select few people. If you're in the mood for a horror themed game that's more disgusting than frightening, or just an RPG that can be completed in one sitting, Parasite Eve is an excellent choice. If however you want more substance, you may want to skip this one.
